Title: Timberframe HQ plan modification
Post by: markatwater on November 08, 2024, 11:20:35 AM
Hello! I have lurked on here for quite some time planning my build. I had a question on a modification for the 16x16 King Post plans I purchased from Timberframe HQ. I will be using the 5:12 pitch modification that makes the king post about 40 inches not including the tenons going into the tie beam and ridge beam. With this available height what size knee braces should I use? The braces are 4"x8" and the tie/ridge beams are 8"x12". I have looked into some of the ridge beam calculators to make sure my span is okay for this. I would assume it is fine since Timberframe HQ provides the modification. Looking for any insight on the sizes I should be using. Thanks and thank you all for the knowledge on here!!!

4x6 and 4x8 are pretty standard brace cross sectional sizes.  Sometimes you'll use 6x6's in places in a larger frame.
