Next week I need to be in Scottsdale, AZ.
Thinking of extending my stay and exploring some.
On my list is doing the squigglies on Rt 89 & 89A in the Prescott, Sedona area.
Sue Ann wants to gaze at the stars from Flagstaff for some reason so that's a stop.
Wondering about Williams, AZ on Rt 66 and the train ride to the Grand Canyon.
Is it worth the extra day?
Not liking the temperatures they are calling for especially at the higher elevations.
One of my sisters lives in Kingman. Last April we went through on our way to Texas for the eclipse. The Grand Canyon is well worth a stop and she mentioned taking the train would be fun/nice. The car traffic can be really crazy getting in after 8:30 am.
Another place east, IIRC, is Walnut Canyon. REALLY nice mini canyon with old cave dwellings you can visit/go inside. Takes about an hour or so to walk the loop/descend and climb the stairs.
Welp, she booked 2 nights in Williams with a train ride to the South side of the Grand Canyon.
We did a chopper ride from Vegas last September to the GC landing in the bottom, pretty DanG impressive.
Looking forward to this.
We visited that area as a much younger couple, must be 20+ years ago. I was enchanted by Arizona, with the mountains, deserts, canyons and everything in between. We definitely want to visit the area again.
Lots of big country to see, do it while you can.
Take some time in Sedona and get some "red rock" on your shoes!
89A Sedona to Flagstaff has a nice overlook on the North end with Slide Rock park along the way,
Enjoy

We took the trip several years ago, orientated to a tourist industry (what else) to me the best part was the ride across the high prairie then the canyon part was many short stops by bus to view the canyon. We had never been in that part of the world, so we enjoyed it. And yes, time in Sedona well worth it, particularly if you get out to the surrounding area.
Looks like we have 3 days to wander with one of them taking the train ride.
Plan on Sedona, Williams, and Flagstaff areas taking the long way around for scenery.
Do Walnut canyon, well worth the couple hours. Blazing hot in the summer but nicer now if not under snow.
We like the Jerome area. seemed less touriesty (sp bad) an old coppper mineing town.

Going to Barrett Jackson? I would love to go but it would probably be constant torture as I probably couldn't afford a burger and a beer there, let alone a car!!
Riding your bike?
mh
We enjoyed the trip.
Except for the cold.
3 degrees in the car one morning. Reminded me why I moved south although it was pretty cold in Fla at the same time.
Took the train from Williams to the south rim of the grand canyon. About 2.5 hours one way. Train was very comfortable, we were in a observation car that was like a fish bowl so we could see everything. Had beverage and snack service.
They put on a show and had live music. I'd do it again.
The canyon is, well, GRAND!! DanG that's a big hole!
Flagstaff was nice, Sedona was very touristy and expensive.
While there we stopped at Walnut canyon although we didn't walk much as it was too cold.
Stopped at Bearizona which is a driving zoo. They had bears, wolves, deer, bison etc roaming around although separated. Came right up to the car.
Drove 89A, Liked it so much I did it again. Twists and turns, high canyon walls, beautiful. Wish I had the bike.
And yes Barrett Jackson was the reason, actually I needed to take re-certification classes and look at a couple cars for clients before they bid.
I've gotta get back down there again👍
I'd love to he able to hike down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. There's a spot where they have waterfalls and cabins, I don't remember the name. I've been struggling with some health issues (turns out it's pinched nerves in my back) that keep me from strenuous hikes right now, but I hope I can get fixed up and do it someday
Well don't count on taking a mule ride to the bottom big boy, I inquired, they looked at me, laughed and said there is a 200 lb weight limit. Lol

Wow, that's a long train ride! Driving is only about 30 minutes, IIRC. BUT, the waiting to pay/get through the gate took another hour or so...
Too bad it was so cold for Walnut Canyon.
Yeah Bill, I don't even get to go on horseback rides as they usually have a 275 pound limit😂😂 I do think I'd make a good scene on a burro, though😂
All this talk of riding burro's reminds me of a classic Eastwood western, Two Mules for Sister Sara. ffsmiley
