I have a 3238 it uses dextron 2 or 3 but not 4
Does the application call for type F. It is still available as I use it on the John Deere. If it calls for Dextron, there are many multi-application ATF fluid that will work for Dextron applications. The ATF+4 (not a Dextron fluid) was typically Chrysler stuff. The Dextron IV will work on the other Dextron applications.
What kind of mill?
What year ?
My 1993 WM I used the lest expensive ATF for absolutely everything. Hydraulics, chains, nuts and bolts anything I figured needed to be lubricated got hit with ATF. On my 2018 I use the same ATF on everything that needs lubrication.
The hydraulics have a specific type of Hydraulic fluid that I use, not ATF. It's listed in your manual.
My 2019 AC36 uses AW 32 oil. I'd think if yours has ATF, then the cheapest you can find would suffice since it's only hydraulics and that is much simpler than an automatic transmission. A quick call to Cook's will answer the question definitively.
