I have offered a Sawmill for free. Contacted by Email that a brother had died and she wants the mill to go for something good. Problem is that She has a brother that is going to be able to deliver. Hasn;t given a address for me to pick up. It appears it may be a scam. Just to give all a heads up.
Sounds like a scam. Hard to tell for sure from the sentence structure, not knowing if it is from the email received by you, or not.
"Free" often isn't whether scam or not.
I had the same one about a week ago.
This is the Email
Hello, I got this email address from your website on Google, I am giving out my late son's wood Mizer sawmill machine Model: LT-70 to your organization FOR FREE. This machine held great sentimental value to him, and I believe it would be more beneficial to someone who could truly utilize it and knows its value. Rather than letting it sit idle in dust and potentially get faulty. The machine is in good condition. So let me know if you are interested or know anyone or organization that needs it and will value this machine cause it means so much to my late son, and to me also cause giving away his equipment hurts a lot but I know this is what he would have wanted.
Since he passed October last year the machine has been sitting idle. So I expect to hear back from your organization swiftly as I have also contacted others around. below are some photos of the machine.
Sincerely,
Sheila.
It reads like a scam.
Well, if you go for it you won't get any sympathy from me.
Though I think it's a scam, I'd play it out and waste the scammer's time. If you can get them to a meet up, just send them the address of the local constabulary.
That would be something if it turned out to be real and I passed on it. ffcheesy ffcheesy

Is she also selling her sons Nissan for 1/3rd price? rayrock
Yup, I'm sure her son would want it to be given away. That's the best way to show how much it meant to him.
He was a rich Nigerian Prince so money didn't matter.
I'm curious how this scam would play out, most likely in the delivery fee one, where they charge to have to delivered up front and skip out, or ...I'm not real up to date on these but it sure has all the hallmarks.
It's also a key that the email says "machine" and "sitting idle" indicating it was based originally upon a car or heavy equipment scam.
Magically when I asked for an address instead of using her brother to transport it she has disappeared.
I love a good scam. I am impressed that she was able to show pictures of an LT70. If I could post them I would to see if anybody recognizes the machine.
Here are pictures that she sent. Does anyone recognise it.
Agree it sounds like a scam.
Don't recognize it, but I see the mill she sent pictures of is an electric mill.
Looks like photos of somebody's new mill set up for the first time. No sawdust anywhere.
And the loader arms still have their paint although I do see some off color touch up on the right side. Nice Kubota tractor and loader in the background. Maybe they well be for give-away too.
I do not understand how a scam like this would benefit the scammer? Are they going to try and get $ from you if you respond (ohh my guy can not deliver you need pay me to have it delivered) or steal your identity.
Pics are same as in this link.

Can see the blue roof-topped building in one of the photos of this ad.
I believe they recently updated the ad to include ocean front property in Arizona as well...
...If you buy that I'll throw the Golden Gate in free.
Yup, the chances are that they lifted those pictures from fb or another site somewhere.
It's in Rotterdam, Netherlands, 4439 miles from my house. I think I'm going to hop in my truck and go get it before anybody else does, it looks like an easy drive.
I'll let you all know when I get there and hook er up!
I was all in, until I saw her name was Sheila. I haven't trusted a Sheila since my Kindergarten teacher (Mrs. Sheila) put me in a time out for no good reason! On those grounds alone, I'd walk away.
YelliwHammer,
I've heard that the drive to the Netherlands from your neck of the woods is lovely this time of year. Just make sure to bring some extra fuel, its hard to find them floating fuel stops ffcheesy
@GRANITEstateMP isn't Shelia Karen's Bat Stuff Crazy sister?
The scammer would ask for a delivery fee, document processing fee, would say she was living somewhere else, disabled and not able to travel to the location of the mill. Wire the money or send gift cards.
BTW, the mill is parked near a bridge that is also for sale. You could charge a toll and get rich!
I just Asked for what it will cost to deliver the mill. Might as well have some fun.
Easiest way to determine if it's a scam is check the email address. Is it coming from a gmail.com or .in or .ru or something similar? Generally the suffix indicates country of origin. Reviewing the email header also works. The header will give details on the path the message took.
Ironically I did actually get a free sawmill. :huh?
Back in the day Peterson asked me to do some real world testing with their prototype JP mill. They dropped it off, and we sawed some logs, took some pictures and video etc. OK, that was all cool.
A few months later they turned up at the door, with the mill, and said I could keep it. It's still the prototype one, so a few things have been improved on the production models, but it it still works fine.
Oh, and when I bought the house it came with a free bridge. It wasn't over the stream, but it was an old steel car hoist left near the stream. Just had to haul it into place over the stream and install some decking (cut with the free sawmill)
So, free stuff does happen, but VERY seldom from random emails....
Emailed her back and this is what I got.
Hello Roy I fell sick for some days now cause of the weather, I already gave you my brother's email, I did tell him about you texting him he would have delivered it to you ever since shouldn't cost you up to 500$ I'm not sure but you can discuss with him, someone else also sent me an email consigning the machine but I'm yet to respond, if you are no longer interested then I can tell them to come pick it up
Just a little fun. Has anyone else been contacted
Just got a Email from the brother. He is very cheap for shipping this mill from overseas.
Hello Mr Roy, I hope you are having a wonderful day. Kindly send me the address you want the machine to be delivered to, Sheila said you are in Liberty TN, delivery there would cost you $350. I think this is a fair amount due to the size of this machine and the snow.
That's a killer deal! I assume their next step is to ask for shipping in advance? Or your credit card number?
I knew I should have kept driving but got cold feet at the shore of the Atlantic. Oh well.
@YellowHammer Robert, if you catch the ferry from Chapel Hill and get the bridge from Hatteras to Penzance. It's a quick trip through the Chunnel to Calais. From there you should be able to take your truck anywhere on the Continent.
This is the Brother with the address.

1501 S 29th St, Kansas City, KS 66106 here's my sister's address. For the delivery which payment method would you prefer? I accept cashapp, PayPal or Zelle
I just Emailed them that I had to come to Smithville Missouri and would come by and see the Mill and pay in Cash.
It's now in Kansas? I just got off the boat in Calais and pulled into a donut shop. How big is Europe? Is there anything worth sightseeing here? I mean more than I can see in Alabama ?
Quotehe would have delivered it to you ever since shouldn't cost you up to 500$
delivery there would cost you $350.
So which is it? :huh? :uhoh: ffcheesy
Well shoot I've got a son maybe 10 /15 miles from there. He's ran a mill before I could get him to look. ffsmiley

More correspondence
Mr Roy I said you should talk to Sheila, I'm sure you have her contact she can give you all the details you need I only contacted you because she asked me to deliver her late son's machine to you but it seems you've got other plans of doing the delivery yourself I'm currently out of town working, making other deliveries around so contact her to give you any information you need or go see her in the hospital and discuss with her. I don't know what arrangements you had with her to go see the machine but she's in the best place to give you all the information's you need.
Thanks
I think they are giving up
Just can't give me an address. What a Shame

You would have given an head up you were coming so I make arrangements, send the delivery fee to Noah he leaves for work very early so I'll give him the keys to the sawmill tonight so he can deliver it to your address Tomorrow, I'm so sorry for the inconvenience, I didn't know you were coming over yourself
Darn. The last house on the street is 1528.
The pretext was the sale of the mill but the scam may be getting you to click on the link and/or download the picture/files. Anyone that did might want to run their virus protection software. Caution might be in order engaging these fools in dialogue (social engineering scheme).
Just Emailed probably for the last time.

Really hate that I have not been able to connect with you and give your brother the money for transportation. It is crazy that I ended up over here. You will be very happy at where we have figured out to take the machine. It is going to make a difference in many lifes that were hurt during the floods.
Can we meet?
Roy
Oh, that was a GOOD one!
It appears that I am not going to get the MIll.

To be honest Roy you don't look serious about getting this machine, this machine is worth tens of thousands of dollars and you act like you're the one doing us a favor, last night I sent emails out to other sawmills in the area if anyone is interested they should come take it, if you need the machine send the delivery fee to Noah and get him to deliver it to you. I talked to him yesterday and he said you don't look serious about getting the machine you do not even reply to his messages

You take all the fun out of it.
The mill that you listed in in the Netherlands for sale.
You have been the entertainment for the Forestry Forum Network where I have been posting your emails.
Yes you are a fraud and not a very good one.
Just remember there are a lot of good people on the edge that your greed hurts. When they go over the edge you will never be able to come back from hurting them.

Yes the sawmill is about 45 mins away from Sheila house, why don't you want to talk to my sister about coming to see her? She said you never told her you were coming yourself today
This is the so called brother that is going to bring me the Mill from the Neatherlands for $350
Their Emails are listed if any of you would like to have a LT70 for free (Almost ) why don't you let them know.
Haha getting scolded by the scammer😂
I can't believe they sold the Mill.

Umm... for the record I highly doubt the pictures of the mill shown were taken in the Netherlands. :uhoh:
The photos in the machineryline ad and the ones in reply #13 all appear to be taken at the same time in the same place. If you look closely in the first picture in reply #13 you will clearly see an early 2000's Chevy Tahoe, and a similar vintage Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep at least appears at a distance to have a rectangle shaped (USA) license plate. In the second photo there is a Ford F-series 350 or bigger truck along with what appears to be an American truck in front of it. All these USA vehicles in one place in the Netherlands, possible, but not likely.
I was soooo close! They said I could have it for twice the delivery fee if you didn't get it.
I drove all the way to the Netherlands from Alabama, non stop. I think I saw the mill in the far distance, but couldn't be sure because right at that time, BigFoot jumped out right in front of me. I stepped on the gas and ran it over (along with most of the Discovery Channel Expedition Bigfoot crew), and started getting closer to the mill, and then Lock Ness Monster ran across the road, and I got distracted.
Oh well.
Well, that goes to show there is more than one Bigfoot, because he was here just yesterday.
I would like all the people to Email these wonderful ???? and tell them how they would like the mill.
Is Mr Haney related to the one from Green Acres?😊
The year that Green Acres came out my Dad got a job in Michigan. We moved from Tenn to a suburb of Detroit and the first Day at school in the 8th grade I had 7 Fights.
Coming from a little 3 room school house to a large one, everytime I said Hello someone thought they needed to fight. I finally asked who was the toughest one there and they all said a M Coon.
I was told he was in the Gym and I went to see him. He was 16 in the 8th grade and was the real mccoy. I introduced myself and sucker punched him. He was so good that he moved out from my hit and asked why. I told him that is I was going to have to fight everybody here I might as well start with the best and work down. He chuckled and said I was OK. Nobody wanted to mess with me after that. Green Acres was not my favorite show, but it did make some good stories.
They used to call my FIL Kimball because he dressed like Hank Kimball hat, jacket and all. I don't guess he had to fight about it but it was a funny coincidence.
I am disappointed I have Emailed them repeatedly and they are not responding.
Oh Well
I just reported the whole charade to abuse@gmail.com as the emails addresses are from there. They will be banned, hopefully pursued.
