Hey folks. Long time lurker first time poster. I'm going to be looking at 1967 gasser cancar tree farmer next week and I could use some ideas about what to look for potential problems. So far I've seen videos of it cold starting and running and it seems to run really well. It has the gearmatic winch although not sure if it's the 8 or 9. I currently use a 60hp kubota tractor with a 501 farmi winch and log about 10k bdft feet of white pine and 30-40cords of firewood a year. Any information I can get would be appreciated im going to run it and make sure the planetaries are running cool and run the winch. See if there's any obvious gremlins.
We had one here on the farm for 30 years for firewood and softwood logs. Even used it like a wrecker to pull vehicles and farm equipment through mud. Those that you mentioned would be a plus to check out. I'm not a mechanic, but I know them old winches sometimes seize up and need coaching.
A vintage machine with a good history.
