Looks like a similar concept to the preservative cartridges they put into utility poles maybe "osmose" is the company name??  One of the members worked for them when they were younger and I can't remember who it was at the moment.

Just saw one of the shorts on FB where a guy was promoting them.  

He drilled a hole and inserted a stick in what appeared to be an oak post.  

It's supposed to activate at 20 percent moisture.  I'm not sure what the active ingredient is.

I've read about them as I was building the cabin. They are banned here in Canada.
