Last year, 3 days before the pigroast, I was eating some potato chips when unbeknownst to me, an old filling fell out of my top right back molar. I lmunched down happily not knowing, and split the tooth behind my right eye tooth to the roots, exposing the nerve. I was dealing with this when I was burned at the pigroast. Apparently you can lump pains together, as I didn't think about it much until a couple three weeks later after the pain from the burns had subsided, and the tooth started giving me trouble if I got food anywhere near it. I tried to get an appointment in the U.P. because that is where I was at. No luck, 1 year out for new patients.
So, I called my dentist down state. Nothing open until March. So, I was careful when eating, and got by. A week before the appointment, Joe and Stacy came up to the cabin. Joe offered me a bite of hunter's sausage he brought. I took a bite and then a chew on the good side of my mouth and bit down on a whole peppercorn. It shattered my back lwer left side molar, exposing the nerve.
So, I finally get to the dentist, and he says they all have to come out, but he wouldnt do it. Said I needed an Oral surgeon. He would refer.
By now I'm really becoming a miserable sob, but whatever. So, I called for the appointment. May 12th was the first available consultation. May 12!! So I called my dentist office back and said you gotta do something, so they gave me another appointment 4 days later. The dentist came in and said why dont you want to go to the oral surgeon? I said I wanted to go, but they can't get me in until the middle of may. Dr. Fred said, Jeff, if I try to do this, you will have problems. Let me go make a call. He came back and said, they can get you in for consult april 7th.
I went for the consult. My blood pressure was 164 over 101. They said I had to get that down before they would consider putting me under, but the could do it via injection. On May 2nd. I said please put me on your cancellation list. They said, let me check our Midland office. A cancelation had just come in for this past thursday at 11:50. I said I would take it.
It was horrble. Apparently I am about 5% of the population that has multi rooted teeth. They really beat me up getting them out, but the big problem, the molar that started everything had roots into my sinus cavity, and when they pulled it, it left a sinus perforation. A hole from my tooth socket directly into my sinuses. They plugged it and gave me instructions which I faithfully followed. Yesterday I suddenly felt some foreign object in the back of my mouth. It was a stitch, and then shortly after things got weird. WhenI would breath through my mouth I could feel it coming out my nose. If I breathed through my nose my mouth would inflate. I lost all ability to move saliva in my mouth to my throat and I am not allowed to spit. I called the oncall surgeon last night. She gave me instructions on how to handle it until this morning. Over night, it seemed to close back up, but now my entire mouth hurts, but I think that is because I laid off the Motrin. Motrin has a side effect for me as all pain meds do. It removes my ability to urinate normally.
Anyhow, I am now a week behind on all the chores I have to do up north, but stuck down here. I cant do any thing strenuous or really anything. Walking, each step brings pain andIm scared to death this opens back up.If it does not stay closed on it's own, it will require surgery.
The good thing is, I guess, is that I've lost 11 lbs since last Monday. Its impossible to eat anything of substance.
No envy whatsoever for your condition. I hate dental stuff.
Well, that didnt last long just getting up and showering opened it back up. Back to see the surgeon for eval at 12:30 today. This royaly sucks.
It may have just been some mucus and the shower hydrated and opened it back up.
I forgot to add, I can't hardly turn my head. I think I wrenched it staining against them trying to get the teeth out. One person was trying to hold my head as the surgeon was wrenching back and forth. Seemed reminiscent of an old western where the dentist put a knee in you chest.
Jeez! I hope things turn around and they get it under control and you get some relief.
Wishing you good luck in getting this fixed up Jeff. Hang in there!
That's awful!!! I wouldn't wish that on anyone!!! Hope you get some relief soon!
JH
That sucks for sure. I've has similar getting a molar removed. Although I didn't get fully perforated I had to have a broken piece of tooth root surgically removed from my sinus. It then got infected, over Cristmas holiday and my face swelled up. That was pretty miserable.
Hope the docs can get you sorted out. The painkillers and lack of sleep really mess with you for sure.
So sorry to hear this Jeff. I'm one of those multi root people, too. Almost got pulled out of the chair by 140 pound dentist/sadist because he didn't want to do a surgical extraction. Then he had to do a surgical extraction. I hope you can get on top of this quickly.
Well, the surgeon said to carry on for now as instructed. She believes the perforation will eventually heal shut. Not much to do this length of time after surgery but let it finish healing If it does not shut, they can't do anything to fix it for about 6 weeks from date of extraction
I was hoping they could just put a stitch back in that came out, but I guess they can't now. So, basically I was told to deal with it for now. Crud Crap and son of a biscuit eh?
Good news is I got some protein down after 4 days via 2 soft fried eggs.
Well that doesn't sound good. Glad you are getting help. I'd be tempted to use a packing, but I will stay in my lane. ffsmiley Hope it gets easier to eat.
I am sending some luck your way.
You need it!!!!
hopefully and antibiotic to ward off evil spirits. I had an impacted wisdom tooth in my 20s. Turned my head and it flattened me on my desk. My boss sent me to his chiropractor who got and x-ray of my neck and said you got and impacted wisdom tooth. antibiotics and I was fine and got the teeth out in Residency at Albany med center.
Yes, on antibiotics for 2 weeks. Amoxycylin
Too much Amoxycylin will make you ugly. :wacky:
It makes me sit on the toilet. I have aversions to every medicine it seems.
 See, I told you. ffcheesy
My wife is the same way.
If the side affects says something will happen, it happens to her.
I'm at the age where my teeth seem to be brittle and break off. Dentist pulls it, sticks in an implant and puts me on a heavy dose of Amoxycylin. First time I got diarrhea bad and the dentist suggested yogurt, and it worked great. Had probably 6 more implants after that first one without problem with the help of yogurt.
Your story makes me feel fortunate. My dentist can get me in within a week if a major problem. If I have pain its same day or the next even if its way after hours.
In Alabama, we use Southern Acupuncture to make a tooth stop hurting. A patient has to take their right shoe off (we don't wear socks) and close their eyes while a buddy slams a 20 oz framing hammer onto the big toe of the right foot. Like magic, a person forgets about the tooth hurting. Works every time.
If the pain comes back, then do the same on the left foot.
The antibiotics might mess with you, but not as badly as letting the mess get infected, to add to the current problems.
That's what I had happen, but luckily local after hours Doc hooked me up with some Amoxycylin and pain killers that settled it all down. A day later the abscess burst in my mouth, which was NOT pleasant, but after that it healed up OK.
But mine wasn't fully perforated, which must complicate things
I keep waking up in a puddle of drewl. No ability to unconsciously vacuum the saliva out of my mouth while I sleep. If I was to try and blow up a balloon the air would just come out my nose. No, I'm not going to try and blow up a balloon as this is no party.
@YellowHammer, or as I mentioned, you can burn yourself with a people, roaster for tooth relief as well.
Current selfie another long niight.
I started to hit the "like" button on your post but couldn't do it. I can sympathize and wish you a much speedier recovery going forward but I dang sure can't "like" news of someone going through what you have been experiencing.
I really hope things improve for you.
I've had my truck and trailer loaded for ten days now to head to the cabin, but know better the shape Ive been in. Everyday I tell myself tomorrow. This morning it beautiful out here, but my gut once again says tomorrow.
Hang in there Jeff.
Well, i feel like I have had an escalation, but a call to the surgeon's office and they said this was normal. Excuse my yooper. But BullChit!
Today when I drink anything past a sip, like say tipping a class to take a couple swigs of water, I feel much of it go right into my sinus cavity, and when I tip my head back down it drains back into my mouth and and throat.
How the hell is that normal. "Take smaller sips" procede as instructed." :uhoh:
How could this not lead to pneumonia? It goes in your nose and runs back in as you are breathing. I would have to be aspirating some of it. I'm scared to drink anything but water at this point.
Well, this all sounds terrible!
You were in surprisingly good spirits at the pig roast Jeff. You're a tough guy! Heal up man!
If you are aspirating you should be coughing your head off. much of the stuff in your mouth could go down the airway, but there are cilia that act like little tails to whisk mucus up your airway to keep the lungs clean. I am sure it is uncomfortable. it may heal over on its own and if not get the stitch. sinuses normally drain into your nose and mouth, middle ear into your throat. Hang tough man. is it better or worse with a straw? can you pack gauze or something into the socket the tooth came out of? just some thoughts.
can be hard to do but see if plugging your nose keeps it out of your sinuses. I know there is that navage system but not goiing to help you.
I've had a few dental complications but nothing to compare with yours. I do wish you well and you can remain the champion of dental problems, I don't wish to compete.
I'm thirsty, Ill go get me a water and pretend it stinks and report back.
Okay
@doc henderson that was the best drink I had in 2 days. It went in my mouth and down my throat without chasing and coraling it.
Quick edit. I am uder strict orders to not even think about ising a straw although I feel there can't be any clot to lose.
Game changer on plugging my nose doc! Thankyou. Drinking was feeling like water boarding.
Guess that luck never made it. :uhoh:
And that's why it's nice to have a Dr. around. Good advice and good result!
Makes me wonder what the tooth is up with that oral surgeon group that they would not give me a hint like that. First I cant beleive they did not even warn me of this potential. I spent hours watching some oral surgery channels since. Doctors explaining the procedures and giving examples of xrays showing if you might be at risk. Like a scalloped root pattern, into the sinus floor, where the floor of the sinuses is very thin. I took a pic of my 3d xray that was up on the screen in from of the surgeon before they started. From what I know now, I was high risk and they not once mentioned it to me, other than my dentist saying if he did it I'd have problems, but eady for an oral surgeon.
Yikes, I was hoping they would be able to get you back in!
looks like it is a three-layer bone graft. I thought they could get a seal with a stitch and then let it heal by secondary intension (scar in). a bone graft sounds worse than it is. my son had to get one for a thin area in his jawbone where he was born without a permanent tooth and needed it to get an implant.
Sorry to hear this Jeff. Hope they come up with a solution fast and you get to enjoy another summer in the UP. My wife had a similar situation where the dentist wouldn't pull a tooth because of that. Over $4k later for a root canal and crown seems to have fixed it. Surprised they didn't warn you upfront.
Just checking in on ya!!!!
I hate to ask this but.... After all this sinus stuff gets sorted out do you have to go back and get bridgework or crowns or something to take the place of the missing teeth??
Doug in SW IA
The only tooth I am concerned about replacing is the one that if I was to give you a huge fake smile, you could see, but not for that reason. As it heals, I can see that eating is an issue. The gap, with the tooth underneath, acts as a food compactor. Not sure what I will do yet. Pretty sure I can not afford an implant.
@doc henderson Here is the tooth they took. Knowing what I know now, it is obvious those teeth are pushing up into the sinus floor. That tooth never hurt. It is the one the filling fell out of that startted all of this. Because the tooth below it was gone, and that one was just hanging up there, the advise was to remove it.
InShot_20250424_082821391.jpg
Man, this is no fun.
I still don't know where I'm heading with this. No sign of the hole in my jaw closing yet, although the tooth socket pain is mostly gone, but eating is still a challange because of the opposite side. They worked over a half hour to get that lower molar out, and not sure what happened to my jaw hinge over there, but I can't open my mouth anywhere near normal and it really is quite painful to try. My neck is still stiff and I'm getting daily headaches.
The most worrisome part for me is the complete exaustion I get during the day doing really nothing. From a guy that couldn't take a nap for years and years, to today, where I needed to lay down 3 times. When I get back up Im still tired but at least functional. My blood pressure is fluctuating wildly. I really don't feel ill, but my get up and go has just flat got up and went.
I'm here thinking of ya!!!
Thank you Ray. I sure appreciate it.
Are you still on antibiotics? can you put your chin on your chest?
Yes, I have 10 days left. I can put my chin on my chest. Did you know, and I am sure you do, but I sure didnt, that with a sinus perforation you can't kiss? At least you can't make a kiss sound. You pucker up, and the suction mechanism to complete the kiss is gone.
It is like a seal leak on a chainsaw; the vacuum is botched by a hole to the sinuses and out the ostia into your nose. I had not thought about a kiss. You could try plugging your nose but that may send the wrong message. ffsmiley smiley_kiss I thought you were exhausted? ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy
I attemped a goodnight kiss. That's all. Jeez doc, don't be jealous. ffcheesy
I will send you a nose clip, we use for nose bleeds. ffwave ffwave ffwave ffcheesy  :wink_2:
I thought you was goona say Roses.
sounds like you may wanna send some to your wife. ffsmiley ffsmiley ffsmiley
Why? She is just fine.
well, only if you plug your nose when you kiss her. ffsmiley
All I know is it now takes two to shotgun a budlight.
The simple things kind be so hard when something goes wrong.
Im heading back to harrison either tonight or in the morning. Seeing the oral surgeon tomorrow at 2:10 in mt. P. Told them what was going on and they want me in there.
Good luck, it doesn't sound like much fun.
When you see them tomorrow, I bet they say "uh oh, why did you wait so long?" Yeah, right...
QuoteIm heading back to harrison either tonight or in the morning. Seeing the oral surgeon tomorrow at 2:10 in mt. P.
I hate that it is necessary, but I agree that you are doing the right thing. (https://forestryforum.com/board/Smileys/alienine/thumbsup.gif)
Get a game plan!!
Yeah, bite his fingers off if they don't help. Well, maybe not off, but at least make the trip worthwhile.
Good luck
Good luck with your procedure and heal up quickly.

Its a she. I could threaten to plug my nose and kiss her. :)

I will, from everything I've learned since, she should of gave me one at the beginning.
Jeff@ Update time!!!
Hey Ray!
Well, basically, but not in these same words, she told me to quit being a weenie and tough it out. She looked me over and said my symtoms were worse because I was getting better. She said the hole seemed bigger because the swelling had gone down, and that it actually was now smaller. The Jaw problem, not being able to open my mouth or chew was being caused by muscle spasms due to an inflammation. The other two locations are no longer sore.
She put me on a 6 day steroid regimen for the spasms in the jaw and That seems to be much better, maybe 50% in just the 2nd day.
As for the perforation. She says that will take 6 to 8 weeks to close, but if it doesn't she says Ill "just need another small surgery" :uhoh: "just let it heal, I'll see you in 6 weeks. I said the antibiotic is giving me diarrhea, she said "well quit taking it" I said, you said I do not want to get an infection in the sinuses as you are quite susceptible to one due to the opening" she says "well you are" pull_smiley
So, I'm now taking some probiotics. I do feel a bit embarrased for going in the grocery dairy section, not finding what I was looking for, and asking where the prophylactics were. :wacky:
Thank you!!!!
Well, you interacted with a real surgeon. kind of no nonsence and restating the obvious you already may have known (redirecting and lowering your expectations). So, you cannot kiss your wife, but you are buying protection? ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy. I think the infection rate is low as long as the hole is open, the chances go up as it seals off. As long as the ostium (normal opening) is open you are good. and steroids will help reduce swelling and edema to the area. dental stuff is the worst. :snowball:
And there I was thinking more about a tubeless tire plug. ffwave
For the Diarrhea?
Hurting on both ends is no fun.

Jeff I said in my earlier post to eat yogurt. I should have said eat yogurt with
probiotics. The brand I use is Activia Probiotic Yogurt. Last year they came out with a sugar free yogurt which works just as good. Easy to find in most stores, not real high priced, tasty, and best of all it works.
Sorry I muffed that first post.
Well it's been 2 days??
Just to let you know I have not forgotten about you.
@Jeff
Well, better news the prophylactic (grin) Thanks
@Larry (grin) is working!
I also ate a fish sandwich yesterday, which I truly needed. Small bites, and ate slow, but I am able to get my jaw about 75% open now, only pain if I don't go slow.
The perferation seems closed when I sleep, seems closed when I get up, but reopens after being awake. Still plugging my nose thanks too
@doc henderson, but hopefully this to will pass. I do finally feel like I may get over this without getting an std ffcheesy
I've been watching this post daily, just imagining what you've been going through.
I'm thinking the reason why when you're sleeping the perforation seems to close up, probably due to tissues in the sinus are relaxing whenever you're relaxed!
I believe it will close up very soon!
I hate being part of the never trust a fart club. It takes so much enjoyment out of grocery shopping with Tammy.
I think the medical term you are looking for is Hershey squirt. ffsmiley It may also be so close to closed that when you lay flat, (head lower than heart) the mucus membranes swell shut. It is why your nose tends to get stuffy at night.
I guess I can't argue with a doctor about medical terms but around here we call em a Shart.
As Ive gotten older I've noticed a tendency to unexpectedly Shart which is very annoying because I have to stop working and walk all the way back to the house.
It was a realization when I first bought my house in Hays. I was half asleep with a stuffy nose. all the sudden I heard a "thump" that sounded like the front door. in 2 seconds, it felt like a vacuum pump and my nose was clear. It was adrenaline/epinephrine from my adrenal glands preparing me to fight. (or flight). It did all kinds of stuff to prepare me for an emergency including decreasing flow to my nasal mucosa so it would open up and I could breathe to prepare for fight or flight. neat.
I have that same response to rattlesnakes.
Thanks for the update.
I made a mistake today. I was watering some flower starts, and washing Lynda's side by side. Just a hose with no nozzle on it flowing out our delicious water here, and it is delicious. It was cold as could be so I took a drink. It turned me into an instant fountain. ffcheesy
Video? ffsmiley

No way am I doing that again intentionally!
A conversation with myself this morning about this stupid Sinus Perforation I was gifted from the oral surgeon.
I had the damaged tooth removed. That's good! No, that's bad. They left a hole clear into my sinuses. That's bad! No that's good! I no longer have pain! That's good! No, that's bad, it removed any ability to sip a nice hot coffee in the morning. Oh, that's bad! No, that's good! I needed to cut my coffee/caffeine for my blood pressure any how. Yea, thats good! No, that's bad! Seems I'm thirsty all the time! Yea, that IS bad. No, that's good! I'm drinking more water! Yea, well that's good. Nope, bad, I grabbed a drink from the hose yesterday and instantly had water shoot out of my right nostril like a fountain and I started spitting and coughing. Oh jeez, that is bad. No, that's good, my dog came running to see what was wrong and to give me a kiss. I Love my dog Well that certainly is good. No, it was bad. Reminded me my ability to kiss is gone. Yea, bad, that sucks. No, that's good, because I can't suck, straws are banned and dont work anyhow and almost everything you drink from a straw is bad for you. Well I guess that is good? Wrong! bad! I have unintended weight loss because I'm not eating enough. That has to be bad eh? No good! My cloths are fitting better than they have in quite some time! Well that's good! Nope. bad. It has me talking outloud to my dog for his opinion on what to wear and he could care less. Yea, that's kinda bad. No, good, makes me want to call and talk to a human at length. Well that is good! No bad. Turns out when I talk more than a short sentence it pushes air up into my sinuses building pressure, which then suddenly blows back out the tooth hole like a fart as Im talking and makes me lisp. Well that sucks! No, that's good! How is that good? Because it sometimes whistles! Well thats good I guess? No bad because I lost my ability to whistle too. Yea, that is bad. No good, because I can still just call my dog. Thats good! No bad, he won't come because I have a lisp.
Well, you have your sense of humor back for sure. ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy We have noticed a bit of a fart sound for years, but did not want to say anything. :snowball: :uhoh: :wink_2: ffcool ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy (testing the sense of humor). I will send you a nasal clip so you can kiss your wife and your dog and (worta, English pronunciation) drink more water without the sinus irrigation.
Emily Blunt about her daughter american and british accent #emilyblunt #jimmyfallon #water (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-qzMWyq3dwQ)
Well, if'n ya'll recall, I've had a battle on several fronts that started with a filling falling out, breaking another tooth, that led to another broken tooth that led to oral surgery which resulted in a perforated sinus, and the many associated evils that have went along with that malady, but it has not ended there.
For the last week I've not been able to get over 75 yards from the house. The antibiotics they had me on, designed to keep me from getting an infection in my sinuses has killed off all the good bacteria in my digestive syytem allowing an evil bacteria, the c diff bacteria to grow and invade my colon. So far bleeding and constant trips, maybe every 20 minutes or so 24hrs a day to the the bathroom, to try and relieve the lower abdominal pains and runs. As of yesterday I began another antibiotic regimen designed to kill off the current offending invaders. After one day, the frequency to the bathroom has been reduced greatly, but the bloody diarrhea and pain is still there, but hopefully will be reduced soon. I did manage to get the grass cut this afternoon, and plant a row of sunflowers 2 days ago, but no pun intended, this 6!@#%^&* is cramping my style!!
No milk no dairy, no fresh fruit, no fats, no spice, no caffeine, no fun.
PS. The perforation into my sinuses is still there, but it seems to be healing. One day it is closed, the next it is open. I may be able to kiss doc Henderson soon, my hero. ffcheesy
Sorry to hear Jeff. It seems with medical stuff, when it rains, it pours! Antibiotic side effects just make a bad situation worse, at least at first.
Well, good news of sorts. I spent part of the afternoon in the war memorial hospital ER in the soo. I do not have c diff! I gave blood from both ends, had an I.V. for dehydration and a CT scan. I have Diverticulitis, that hopefully with another change of meds, perhaps they can end this crap. At least ist was NOT c.d.
Wow, you are having quite a time of it. You will need a vacation when all this is over!
Nothing at all positive to report. smiley_thumbsdown
DanG
That Cdiff is one ignorant invader My older sister had it The cure seems to be a massive course of probiotics or a poop enima using feces from a family member.
I think probiotics sound just fine.
Turned out not c diff. But acute diverticulitis. Im near the end of the antibiotic regimen with very little improvent. Still lots of blood. Just cedar and I here. Stacy had hip surgery tuesday, and is zero weight bearing for a month. Tammy has wrist surgery a week from tomorrow. Probably the best place for me as I dont have to share a bathroom or my toilet paper here. Now even water is making me nauseous. Im hoping whe the antibiotics are done, the diarrhea will disapate. Ive never felt so worthless in my entire life.
I remember the one time I had influenza flu when I was 13, it was coming from both ends, I could barely move from body aches and toothpaste had a weird taste. The smell of food made me puke. Could barely stand ginger ale. Lasted 3 weeks, no school. Was even a hassle to take a bath. smiley_thumbsdown
I drove a miserable 3 hours south, dropped off cedar, headed to the er in clare and they kept me. I knew they would, the way I feel, thats why I headed south. I dont mind being stranded, but I wont strand my dog!!
Good luck Jeff!
Please stay in touch.
This is now the diagnosis. Extensive C diff colitis
Just some food for thought (GROSS!) Clare hospital has way better toilet paper than every south bound rest area between Da yoop and here!! You may see me carrying my own in from now on. I bet I get looks though carrying it back out!
That's nasty stuff (I'm reading about it) and can lead to something a lot worst if not treated. Hope they get it under control as quick as possible.
Some places have some pretty darn thin toilet paper, more like tissue paper. :D
I had C Diff, not fun at all, it put me in the hospital for a few days, but luckily no surgery. Martha has had it too, not as bad, caused by antibiotics. Certainly based on the way you are feeling, I hope they get very aggressive with it, especially with the bleeding.
I wish you the best of sure, it's time to get you healing!
My wife had a knee replaced with the mandatory massive antibiotics to keep infection out of the picture. A month later she had either Ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease according to the doc. So off we go with multiple camera insertions and multiple prescriptions. Three months latter not a sign of inflammatory bowel disease, called it something else before it was identified as C Diff. Still waiting to see what else they come up with.
The Normal me would be saying "let's blow this popsicle stand" The current me is thinking "please don't send me back home feeling like this!"
Only positive thing to report is that this is deemed not infectious. They removed the restrictions for entering my room. Still trying to find some answers. Not getting any better yet.
I am of no help my Friend, but we are both rooting for you and your recovery.
it is Monday so hopefully evaluations will be in high gear. Your body will ultimately heal itself with the help of, or despite all of the medical intervention. ffsmiley
They took me off clear liquids yesterday, and I was able to manage a grilled cheese sandwich before they came back in and demoted me this morning to full liquid. Not near as restrictive as clear liquids. I'm about as weak as I've ever been.
Of all things!! My hospital phone rang, and I said hello? They said are you there? I said who is this? Then a spam call about how trump was going to disrupt medicare! On the hospital phone!!
Spam is everywhere!!!!
I'm thinking of you.
It must be bad when a hospital grilled cheese sandwich tastes good! Sounds like things are improving.
It was the only thing i thought i might handle. They took solid foods away again today. Ive been sick a long time.. 5i growing tired.
Ulcerative Colitis .is the diagnosis. The plan is to give me more antibiotics today along with some butt pucker. Imodium, and perhaps let me go home tomorrow. Stact has surgery last tuesday on her hip, tammy has surgery friday. I need to get back on my feet. They let me eat this morning.
Wishing you and your family the best in all of this.
You'll come through my friend. It don't feel like it at first I'm sure. All sunshine and apple blossoms from here on out. :sunny:
Well, I don't think I'll be coming home. I had major blood tonight, enough the nurse took a picture to put in the records and said she was calling "the provider" who ever that is. That has resulted in that they ordered more labs and a surgery consult for tomorrow.
I had rolled over on my left side and got pain in my right side. I laid there about 15 minutes and had to urgently get up.
I had had a good day yesterday and was convinced I was on the upswing.
I am glad they are not in a rush to send you out before you are really on the mend. They may end up sending you to a university hospital if they cannot nail this down. You may need a gastroenterologist to look for the rare stuff. If they do a scope, they can do a biopsy to see what is happening on the microscopic cellular level. I am getting tired of all this misery, I can only imagine where you are at my friend. Keep the faith. Doc
Provider is a "nickname" for whoever is taking care of you that day, and includes doctors, nurse practitioners, and PAs. Do they have a gastro at your hospital? We have only one and are a medium sized hospital. At a university or large hospital, they will have a whole GI department. This is sometimes par for the course, as they try treatment for the common stuff, but if things do not get better, they have to look for the unusual stuff. Godspeed.
DO NOT ever think as I did, that the effect of taking excessive antibiotics is simply a loss of future effectiveness to the antibiotic. It can be and is far more dire then that and the results can take you out.
They discharged me yesterday to come home after 7 days and continue to try and reestablish my gut bacteria which was decimated by the prescribed only as preventative anitbiotics started by the dentist, continued by the oral surgeon, and then after doing the innitial gut damage, escalated by the first ER visit where they prescribed 2 more antibiotics proclaiming after innitial blood testing and ct scan, and not finding cdiff that I had a totally coincidental diverticulitis, after being completely healthy before the dentistry.
Im now dancing the dance to try and regain my strength and heal my colon that was basically self digesting from bad bacteria had taken over after the antibiotic kill off of all the beneficial. I've never been so sick and weak in my entire life, but the last two days finally, I feel better than I have in over a month. Weak, but not sick. I'll spend the next few days continuing to heal and follow up Monday morning with the GP monday morning, then hopefully get back to being the active me.
I'm way behind on my projects, but I will catch up somehow and miss my U.P. immensely :)
That is more like what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the update.
That is great news.
Being sent home is good!!!
Yup, time to get his butt outta there. ffwave
I knew you'd pull through. You're a lot tougher than you think. Too much will to live on to let them bugs get the better of ya. :sunny:
been following this glad you are on the mend
ffcool
Wishing you continued improvement and a positive outcome
Good news!!!! I was hoping to read this. ffsmiley Sorry this tooth ordeal morphed into such a disaster. About all I could offer you was some dog probiotics, so I kept quiet. Glad you are mending.
If pressed, I'd say I'm at about 60% of normal, but my intentions, if getting an ok from my GP tomorrow, I'm going to head back to the u.p. cedar will stay home for a vet visit.
@Nebraska, he keeps getting out breaks of rashes all over his under side and pits. Clearly an alergy thing, but do not know from what. If I hose him off good, mix up some 3-1 ointment with hydrocortisone cream, and rub it all over the red areas, and give him 4 benadryl it clears up over night, but comes back in a couple days. I lmit his food to the same thing, with only mini milkbones as treats.
The stress level up there for me is far less than here, I'll just leave that to that, but I need to go north to get right..
@Nebraska could this be stress induced urticaria as Cedar was worried about Jeff and had a disrupted routine. has to be hard on a best friend. how long has this been going on Jeff?
He had it bad last year too. He was a mess at the pigroast.
I'm glad to hear you are getting out of the hospital, that's where all the sick people are!
Possible but stressed out dogs from boarding, life changes etc usually have colitis type of GI upsets. Environmental allergies are very common.

We have done fecal enemas from loved ones (merry Christmas) as the gold uh... well... the brown standard. people are a little put off by what is being put in. this may be a more palatable way to do it to re-establish good bacteria. The clostridium difficile is not bad (most of us have it) unless it takes everything over and begins to produce toxin. It is the Bermuda grass of the GI lawn. We rarely use big oral antibiotics at our house, but they are sometime needed.
