I went out to breakfast yesterday with my brother, and we just placed our normal orders. Shortly after taking our orders, the waiter returned and asked "are either of you guys military"?
I said "actually we both are retired military", and the waiter then announced that our meals will be free, paid for by an anonymous couple! That incident really made us both feel very proud of what we've done through the years!
Thought about it a little bit, then the light came on "Memorial Day, Military Appreciation"!
First time anything like that has ever happened to me! ffsmiley
I like that!!!!
That is nice, you deserve it.
What a very nice gesture from them. And good for you for serving.
Cool. Always nice to get some recognition.
Beware though...there is no such thing as a free lunch! ffcheesy
Well deserved.

But maybe in this case, it was a free breakfast. Or at least someone else voluntarily paid for it which means they really wanted to and appreciated your service.
I had that happen once a few years ago, wife and I having breakfast in a small diner in Northeast MD. and a kind gentleman paid our bill. I was wearing a Vietnam Veteran hat.
My kids went to military colleges. The cadets/midshipmen have it pretty rough there, especially the first year. My kids told me how much it meant on the rare occasion they could go into town to a restaurant when they would go to pay for their meal to find out some generous person had seen them in uniform and paid their bill. I tried to do that for others whenever I was in the area.
