Title: Need some advice
Post by: Bearpau on June 08, 2025, 09:47:42 PM
I'm thinking about selling my lt28 band mill is there a place to get a reasonable value from? I called Woodmizer and I'm not real confident the gentleman knew what he was talking about.

   Why not?

I would not suggest trying to sell it for less than WM suggests. Maybe offer it at a significantly higher price and see what happens.

You do not mention hours or condition or what else may go with the mill such as cant hooks, blades, spare parts, etc. Has it been shed kept or in the weather?

All that comes into play. Is it running so you can demo it to a potential customer?

I have heard that Wood-Mizer has an Orange Book value similar to an auto's Blue Book value.  I suppose that they take into consideration the items that Howard listed above to reach this value or at least a starting point.  You can always come down but not go up so leave yourself some wiggle room.

I sold my 2010 Lt28 fully optioned and fine adjust outriggers for 15k in march. It sat for three months and when the weather broke I had three different people offer to come get it the same weekend. Ask high and give them a few grand to talk you down if your not anxious.

As with any machine, check the market for "comps", (comparable machines) that are for sale or recently sold. That will give you an idea of the current market and what price range to set in.
If I were selling, I would have the machine clean, fresh engine service, and a few new blades to entice a buyer (and to get the best price). Also the trailer (lights, tires, etc.) ready to head down the highway.

I recently was thinking of selling my LT40HD38, but have since decided to hold off.  I called Wood-Mizer headquarters and they were able to give me the Orange Book value.  It was only a few hundred bucks less than what I paid.  Definitely do not ask for less than the Orange Book value.  To purchase a new LT40 with the options I have is 10k more right now.  I am going to build a pavilion style shed for my mill and get it out where it can be more easily used and not give up on it.  I had been thinking of down sizing to a manual mill since I haven't used it much, but every time I decide to go that route, I watch a video and change my mind.   ffcheesy
