Yes, I finally saw a fawn.
Have not seen one in 40 years or more.
This was not a small one, about the size of a goat, but it had spots.
I was driving by my road in the company car to deliver parts to a garage and I saw it standing in the road. It went to the edge of the road and tottered off on the side of the road.
cool!
I've only seen one fawn here this year, the first I've seen in 2 years. There are lots of dry does around, otherwise they would not group up so much. A doe with a fawn is not often part of the group. Them things are hard to see anyway especially with all the new June growth. I have actually about stepped on fawns before. One was at a base of a tree in the woods, foot ready to meet the ground and a fawn jumps up. That'll surprise you. ffcheesy
How big a goat was it the size of? ffcheesy
I let Sampson out earlier this morning and had 2 by the woodshed.
A nubian. ffcheesy

Wow - that's awful big for a spotted fawn. This fact sheet says 50-80 lbs for a female IIRC.
Are you sure it was not a pied deer? Sometimes they occur and the last time I saw one I thought it was a goat at first.
I'm sure. We had them goats before.
Did not have spots all over.
But it was what I think was a fawn.
We have a lot of small yearlings around with mature does here. Lots of 3-5 deer in groups, one will be a big adult doe. There was two of them yearlings with a mature doe and her fawn that I saw. Was real odd to see them smaller deer with that mother doe and fawn. I've seen that mother doe lots of times since and them yearlings aren't with her.
