I have an old hood 24000 log loader. Probably the first one ever built. It sat for over a year and leaked most of its hydraulic oil out so I added 20 gallons and started it up. For some reason I have no swing or stabilizers. That whole valve bank doesn't work. All other functions work fine. That valve bank runs off of a single section vane pump that is on the front of the engine running off of the crankshaft. Assuming the pump was shot I put a new one on. Of course that didn't fix it. So I then pulled the filter screen in the tank and cleaned it. (It wasn't dirty). Still didn't work. Next I changed the suction hose that went from the tank to the pump, and still no luck. Im now out of ideas. I was wondering if anyone here might know something about these old relics. Or maybe have a hydraulic schematic for one of these. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know much about a hood loader but they wouldn't happen to be a deverter valve in the circuit that's in neutral position. Some older loaders had a valve to use one function and move it to use another.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it does seem to have a little selector valve that you use to switch between the front stabilizers. When you move that lever there seems to be no resistance. I thought that it was because the pump wasn't working.
Davco - 207-778-9060. Who I would call. Do you actually have flow thru the valve section that's dead ? Can you crack a hose and test it ? My barko 160A would lose prime constantly if she sits funny, we added another 10gal tank above the reservoir as a head tank, you sure you've got enough oil ? You've got straight up hydraulics ? No electric cut off for the saw or valve bank ? 1996 was the change over year on the 24000 to the newer boom style, if you can find a serial # I'm sure Davco may have a schematic.

Thanks for the reply. I just called Davco. They don't have a hydraulic schematic for one this old. They are trying to help me figure out the problem over the phone. Seem like real good people to deal with. There are no electronics on this loader. I also now have the oil reservoir over 3/4 full (about 35 gallons). Still no luck. The tech at Davco wants me to swap the supply hoses on the valve banks to isolate wether it is a pump problem or a valve problem. I will do that sometime this week. I am interested to know the purpose of "head tank" that you installed on your barko. Did you have to change your returns and your vented cap?
Still returns to the main tank, plugged the cap and added a vent hose higher than the head tank. It works. Does the pump sound normal or starving for oil ? Swapping the suctions would do it. I always look for the stupid stuff first, valve, cap, blocked hose, crack the valve bank. Got a spool stuck that's blocking oil flow ? Guys talk how slow the Hoods are but I've got no complaints, have an older 7k and 04 24000 mobile and never had alot of big issues.
