www.grandcanyonnorth.com is the Lodge at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon . . and very sadly it has been lost to a Fire
I saw that this AM.
It is unbelievable that this happened.
I have stopped there several times. Possibly the most interesting/different was May 22,2019.
I had camped in the National Forest the night before in the snow, and we got another 6-8" overnight.
we got up and drove into the park and we couldn't see the canyon. due to the fog/clouds

So I can say I went to the Grand Canyon and didn't see it.
We stayed at the lodge on the north rim when the kids were about 10/12. We followed gps and wound up on the south side and had to go 4 hours to get to the other side. They had only one cabin open for the night, Cabin number one. It is normally booked for years in advance, but they had one night open. It is about 15 feet back from the canyon. We ate and spent time in the lodge. It was amazing.
The North Rim has always been on my list, unfortunately I'll never see the historic lodge now.
I read that it had already burned down once, due to a kitchen fire not long after it was built.
We were there last September.
Sad, beautiful place.
There is a lodge on the south rim, the El Tovar which is pretty impressive.
Wife and I visited the south rim spring of 2005 and stopped at this lodge. Booked up which we expected. But we were allowed to wait until 6pm for a possible opening (no-show) and got a very nice room.

iirc that hotel burned down at least once in its history. Hopefully they will rebuild the one on the north rim.
I've been to the North Rim Lodge twice. It was a beautiful building, though I only kind of walked through it both times. Sad to hear it's gone but they'll put something else up, I'm sure. There was plenty of fuel around for the fire. I don't quite remember how dense the trees were right at the lodge but I recall lots of evergreens on the drive to it. Bummer.
