Title: Nature Conservancy purchase timber rights
Post by: Ron Wenrich on July 31, 2002, 03:28:00 PM
The Nature Conservancy has purchased the timber rights to 5750 acres of timber in Virginia.  The easement is premanent and has funding from some big name benefactors.

Under the easement, The Conservancy will be making annual payments  based on a percentage of the timber value.  They will fund this by conducting ecological sustainable harvesting.  The aim is for wildlife habitat protection.

Has forest management turned the corner where landowners will align with a foundation and freeze traditional producers out of the marketplace?
