Got a horse logger friend who's horse Bob is the topic of an article in Draft Horse Journal.
He (not Bob) has been lurking here recently but "sensory overload" at the amount of info here has kept him from posting.
He's a Dang good guy, and rightfully proud of Bob
Anyone interested in horse logging and Moose skidding can take a look here.

Great photos, I just had to see what moose skidding was. Makes total sense now cause I dont think m(any) of us could skid one. Well, welcome Bob! Hopefully you can get that fella that walks around behindstya to join up and do some posting for ya. :)
Thanks for the link Karl, Bob is sure a good looking Belgian. I'll bet it took some doin to get him used to skidding moose.
I was sorta wondering how he would train a moose to skid :D
Whats amazing to me is that through the whole thing the Moose never seemed to wake up ;D

Just like some people, just easier to lay there and be pulled along, lettin someone else do the work. :)
Great pics and scenery. Still seems a lot of work for the 'driver' keeping up with 'Bob' and staying out of the way of Mr. Moose, while watching where you step for your own good footing. But a good way of moving them out, in one trip.

Are you into fall logging yet in N. Illinois? Was thinking of looking in your gallery for some pics. :)
When I saw this topic I was so 8). Then I saw the pictures and I am so :-[
I know the horse "Bob" is a lot bigger and better looking. ;D
Bob
Like all the Bob's that I know....that is one good looking fella!! 8) 8) Who's the other guy watching Bob do all the work? :D

moosepuller
welcome to the forum. great pics of you and Bob.
Ya haven't had any problem with horse Bob gettin an appetite for eatin those moose, have ya? ???
We have heard stories on this forum of a draft horse eating chickens (really!), but course your moose don't have feathers so.....maybe no problem. ;D
Yea better not let Becky see those pictures. :D
Bob is a beautiful draft. The drafts sure do make good pals don't they. :)
I also was thinking you were using moose for skidding, untill I seen Bob in the photogallery you linked. ;D As a matter of fact they used to catch young moose and train them for packing and skidding in the woods. ;) I have a book with some photos, but they are copyrighted.
Jeff B yes I am a fulltime horse logger I also do hayrides sleigh rides and carriage rides. I'm having a hard time to communicate through this computerOtherwise I could send logging pictures. I guess you could call me computer illiterate! Later, Moosepuller
