Title: cutting pine
Post by: TexasTimbers on October 23, 2005, 10:17:56 AM
I have some more loblolly to cut. My understanding is that is should be cut "before the sap quits running"? How do I tell if it's still running (zero comes out when you cut into it?) and if it isn't running should I wait til it starts again?
I want to cut it now and use it next year or year after for TFing. I guess cutting it now and using it now is right out?

Pine cut now, into 4/4 will be about 20% in 6 or 8 weeks.

The only benefit you may get by cutting the pine in the winter is a lack of bugs and diminished blue staining and mildewing.

We cut, saw and build all year here. :)

sap will run out of the stump regardless of the time of year, mor will just run out during the growing season (spring, fall)
