Title: Sad news
Post by: Fla._Deadheader on October 11, 2002, 07:24:05 PM
I never mentioned this, but, I am somewhat of a "Treasure Hunter". I have been doing this for over 15 years. I dive Spanish treasure wrecks in Florida and the Bahamas.

Recently, I have taken up hunting for gold.

In June of this year, I went to Alaska, detecting on an active Mine Claim. This was the first time anyone had used metal detectors on this claim.

While there, I met one of the nicest people that you could possibly imagine. He and his wife were co-owners of this mine.

While returning home to Louisiana, on Oct.2nd, He was killed when he crashed his small plane in Kansas.

I never "took" to anyone as quickly as I took to this man. I only knew him for 5 days, but, feel like I have known him for years. What a waste of a wonderful human being.

Here is a pic of him and a piece of Quartz that came from an unknown source, somewhere on the claim. He really thought he was about to find the source this year.

Thanks for letting me get this out.  Harold

Thank you Harold, for sharing.  I am happy you felt free enough to tell us of your new found friend as well as your  loss.   He looks like a real fun filled fella.

That is sad, Harold.  When you tend to "get about", as I have for the past 35 years, or so, and as you obviously do, you tend to read people and make friends quickly.  You sorta know, when you meet a person of worth, that this is a friend, and you will not forget them, even though your lifestyle dictates that you may not see them again.  These special people merit the title, "Friend", as surely as if you had loved them all your life.  I'm truly sorry, for the loss you feel.

Harold,

I'm sorry for your loss. People are precious, whether they are family or friends.

My thoughts are with you.
