Hey Deadheader,
From what Fred has been tellin' us you are about a million bf behind :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
I was wonderin' why he lets you be online when there is sooooo much work to catch up on ??? ??? ???
By the way, did he ever give you any of Janet's coffee :D :D :D
I wouldnt rile ole Rodney up...........he may go medival on ya 8) 8) 8)
Occassionally Deadheader goes through withdrawl systems and just HAS to have an internet connection.
He'll be okay in a day or so.
As of last night, I'm on an O-fish-ull mission. Gonna check out some BIG tanks for our Vacuum Kiln. That's on Thursday. Making contact with people that could be some help, while I'm in San Jose.
Your sure never far away from it. ;D :D :D :D
If ya got it--use it 8) 8) :D :D
Maybe you should try to get yourself and exorcist while your in town :D :D :D :D
I'M EXORCISIN MYSELF OUTTA TOWN, SOON AS POSSIBLE. ;D ;D
Anybody else noticed that Fred is STILL dodging the coffee question?
Gonna give him some or NOT?
:)
Did I mention that I really like you, Janet? 8) 8)
Be careful, Janet.
Roxie has warmed up to you and you may just get a new partner down there in Costa Rica. Poor FDH will not get any rest then with both CR and Roxie there. ;D
Farmerdoug
I got alternate places to hide out, down here. ;D :D :D
Not if the Forestry Forum members keep appearing down there at their current rate. :o :D :D :D :D
Come on down. Roxie..and bring that pink bow!
Not only that - all Janet has to do is post out on Costa Rica Living "Where in the World is FDH" and she will have you nailed down in no time.
You are rather noticable Harold...
Wadda ya mean - share the coffee? Harold doesn't have any taste buds after eating grits for so long. He thinks El Rey taste good, and so does his neighbors in Florida.
Best evidence I have that grits are bad for you.
He can have some when he visits - don't want to spoil him or nothing...
I thought FDH was just itchin' to get his mill goin' ??? ??? ??? ???
Where's the pictures of the lumber and the sawdust ??? ??? ???
I still think you should juice him up with expresso and cut him loose ;D ;D ;D
Harold is investigating stuff for the vacuum kilns - got to dry it after you cut it. Our group is hard at work getting permits. Perhaps I will post for you all what you have to go through to cut wood here. :o
But, he is falling behind. :D
I done drawed up a skizzmatic for puttin overhead lights on the mill. Then we can run 24 hours a day.
Might hafta put an order in to Janet myself, bein as how Fred is so tighta** with his stash. :o :D :D :D :D
Shoot - you give they guy a place to stay for 3 months - and he accuses you of being cheap... ::)
I drink expresso - dark roast - and grind it - if you want a little, you can have some beans to chew...
Are you saying gringos with sawdust on their boots aren't that common in CR ? :D :D
Fred's been a great host. Keeps me on my toes, tryin to figure out which way we go day by day. ;D ;D When the mill gets going, I can just see the orders hitting the ground, and, we need THIS, and what about THAT. You have this order ready ??? Right Fred ?? ;D ;D :D ;)
I have orders, shoot, I even have the money - just waiting on your mi amigo... ;D
It isn't me that keeps changing things - Costa Rica. Get used to it. Nothing goes straight here, except the trees.
Adjust, adjust, adjust, adjust...
So what are you fellas handling logs with ??? are you doing any skidding ??? or taking the mill to each tree ??? How about handling lumber ??? All with hand labor or is there some mechanized means available ???

...........It isn't me that keeps changing things - Costa Rica. Get used to it. Nothing goes straight here, except the trees.
So when all these teak trees get to a size that the investors want to cash in, CR will have restrictions that won't allow that to happen? What protects the investors from that happening to their trees?
Ley 7575 - reforestation law. The trees planted are not a problem. The trees that grow wild are.
(Ley = Law in Spanish)
Costa Rica has grandfather clauses in their constitution as well. So, no problem there. It is just the natural ones that get interesting...
Plantation permits are really easy.
Corley5,
Yep, there is mechanical tractors, and then there is my horse Toro. :) Just depends what the terrain is like.
Deadheader,
While you are researching, look into labor laws here.
There be some really, really strong ones protecting workers...
Look out, Fred. Be nice.
He works for himself - labor laws don't apply to him. Both he and I are evil business owner types...
You know the drill Janet. ;D

Come on down. Roxie..and bring that pink bow!
Careful der Roxie, Juan Valdez catches you packin' coffee out on dat mule o' yers he might get nasty, pink bow or not. :D
Wow.....24 hours a day...........He's gonna need some expresso for sure ;D ;D ;D
Orders and money too...........How's that work out ??? ??? ???
That's how difficult it is to obtain GOOD lumber down here. Didn't think I would do this move on Speculation now, did'ja ::) ;D ;D
What I tell people is the truth, If I don't take a deposit - Hector will sell the wood while I am not looking. :o
Sounds like a good marketing scheme to me. ;D :D
Part of what makes this work is that our website gets lots of people, some more interested in wood than in trees - so I get contacted. Harold is "supposed" ;) to be out there cutting, and Hector is finding wood.
Hector can find anything and get anything done, but Harold has the expertise that we need. Of course, Harold needs our expertise as well - even though he doesn't always listen to it. (I keep telling him to get rid of the grits, but does he listen... ::) )
Each of us doing what we do best should be a good combination.
Refer to the topic ;D :D
Exactly right. Back on topic. Let's see...
Juan Valdez drinks Costa Rican coffee
8)
Correct - You sell the poor stuff, and keep the good stuff for your own consumption.
You all know that - do I have to remind you of Wood Hoarders Anonomous?! ::)
Fess up Janet - do you have a ultra select that you don't ship? ???
Is there really a Juan ??? ??? ??? ???
I thought he always drank Folgers or some other crap like that......I suppose he was pushin' that on us so he could afford to spend his money on Janet's coffee ;D ;D ;D
Janet,
I cannot live without your coffee now. I didn't have time for a pot this morning and my whole day has gone into the dumper smiley_dozy_bored smiley_dozy_bored smiley_dozy_bored
Let me know if you need help building your house....I'll be there and I'll be bringin' my cup with me.
Ya got to promise me tho that you'll keep the creepy crawlys away while we're workin' smiley_spider drop smiley_spider drop smiley_spider drop smiley_spider drop smiley_spider drop smiley_spider drop
Nope, Fred...I'd never admit it. AND I wouldn' t have some poor worker thinking he was his own boss so he'd miss out on all the great bennies here.
:D
AND, no, no, no. This is ECOTOURISM. We don't charge a BIT more for the creepy crawlies...bring a board, though, and I'll protect you!
Thanks...........
Sounds like this vac kiln is good as built. ??? And I'm going to design it. ??? ??? And it is going to be heated by the sun. ??? ??? ??? And Harold is gathering parts from San Jose scrap yards. ??? ??? ??? ??? Whew! My work is cut out for me. :D
I've been talking with plantation owners in New Zealand, Australia and South America. Seems that some trees are getting big enough that they don't want to use them for their intended, low value use but now want to dry thicker, high quality wood as they thin the trees.
Exactimente' Den. We are pioneering the first homebuilt in Central America. You DO have your work cut out for you. Think of the commissions if we are successful and start to market them. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)
Them other Dude's want to do what we want to do. 8) 8)
The issue is sort of like this:
1. If there is prime rib (I figure I can explain anything to this crew using food) then I want prime rib.
2. But, if there is no prime rib, I'll take steak,
3. But if there is no steak - I'll take whatever doesn't move (or is slow)
For example, people used to turn their noses up to young teak - doesn't matter now. If all you got is young teak, you buy it.
Since I have talked to people from India and Malaysia seeking teak - it looks like things are getting a little thin out there.
