Today, I had to go get fuel for my truck and sawmill. A trip like this is usually for 75 to 90 Gallons of diesel. I was about as close to a station I use in Folkston Ga. as I was from one of my stations near home, so I went to Folkston.
When I arrived I reached for my wallet to prepare for the purchase and..Aieeee, no wallet.
I crossed the fuel yard, its a station used by many logging companies, and explained my dilema to one of the attendants. I know them all thank goodness. Before I could get the whole story out, he understood what was going on and said " sure Tom, filler-up". After I had gotten my off-road fuel and was headed for the truck pump, he came over and said he had talked to Billy, the owner, and he said there was no problem. I know Billy too.
What I'm trying to say is that I work in a circuit with about a 120 mile diameter and have always tried to spend some of my money where I saw. I make sure that the bankers, resturant owners, hardware stores and barber shops all know who I am. I take time to visit and try to learn names. This is one example of why it's the right thing to do.
Yep, I found my wallet this evening under the washing machine at the house. ::)
I ain't even gonna ask how your wallet got under the washing machine! :D Yer main problem is over organization. I've got pieces of paper in mine that the writing is wore completely off. I suspect that some of them once bore the phone numbers of women I met before meeting my wife, almost 10 years ago. Point is, if I get in my truck without it, it'll throw my back out of WHACK. I just ain't accustomed to sitting down without it.
Also, Tom, you were trusted by those folks because they knew YOU. I know a lot of people who would be better off to not be known. Those people saw, in you, the same thing that we see.."This is a man that I can trust." My hat is off to you, for that. :)
DanG, this is the same man that wrote me up for sleeping through reville formation at military school in 1962. He was a Cadet Major and I was a Cadet Sargent. I had to walk 2 hours on the bullring for it. Good thing I didn't own that gas station....I'd have made him walk around the station for a couple of hours for losing his wallet. ;D
Well, thanks Dan. That was a really nice thing to say. I'm all puffed up now. :D
No sense of humor, Charlie. Can't you take a joke? :D
Hey! I ain't takin' the blame for that. I didn't get to see you in Moultrie, but I've seen a few pics. You were already "all puffed up." ;D
The Chinese call that opulence, DanG. ;D
Since you were in Folkston, I assume you cut up that big pine log you were talking about. How did it go? Did you take any pics?
Wasn't sawing in Folkston. I was west of Bryceville on the Florida side of the St. Mary's next to St. George. I did get a phone call on my answering machine tonight from the fellow who was going to take the tree down and he asked when I could get back up there. I imagine it will be awhile because I have some pertinent things to take care of before I can build my sawing schedule too big again.
You can rest assured that I will take pictures though.
