JUNE!! Never hurts to plan ahead ;D :D 8)
I went to the one the had a few years ago, and I was disappointed. Wasn't too much for us commercial guys, but those who wanted small band mills had a nice selection. Some of those operators are now out of business.
More than likely I'll show up on Friday afternoon.
maby we can meet up there
I would like to go to that show,I will see in June.
Maybe we should have our Atlantic regional meeting of forestryforum.com. :D We could even get Jeff to do a guest appearance. :o
HA HA, that's rich......Jeff.......a guest appearance. :D
That means that he would be lurking behind the tent and watching everything you do but you wouldn't know who he was, eh?
You gotta get him to register if he attends. :D :D
jeff you can make it right??? 8) 8) ;D ;D :D :D 8)
Will they have sheep?
Hmmmmmmmmmm! :-/
FARM SHOW.....GET IT?
Anyway I heard Wenrich aint going unless they got goats.
Oh-h-h--h---h ......ahem I get it. :-/ :P :-/ :D
Actually, if you want to see the hommies and the wutzs, you have to go in January. If the avian flu ain't too bad, they even have a few hinkels. There are always sheep, goats and horses there as well.
They have a sheep to shawl contest where they bring out sheep, shear them, spin yarn and make a shawl. I've never seen it, but it draws the crowds.
They also have horse pulls. And they have a ton of food. Everything in this area revolves around food.
(For those not refined in PA Dutch a hommie is a calf, a wutz is a young pig, and a hinkel is a chicken. And you just thought I was full of winternaus.)
You didn't mention goats.
Roll Call
Who is planning on attending since we are now closer to the event ? I will probably be in the area attending a scrollsaw competition at the Lebanon Expo Center on Sat and Sun but Fri is open. If anyone likes to watch sprintcars race they should stop at Williams Grove Speedway on Fri . night . We went last year and they put on one heck of a show for like $12 a person.
I tink you have to go to Montana to see da sheep.
I'm planning on going. Hope to see youall there! :D :D
I'll be there on Friday afternoon. For a list of exhibitors, try this:

I'm going to try and make it up on Saturday.
The HLMA show has moved around the state over the years. Before it was in Harrisburg they held it at the fairgrounds in York. Ten or twelve years ago it was at the fairgrounds in Bloomsburg., the one where they have the monster truck races. The farm show complex is the best venue so far simply because of its size and facilities. I agree with Ron, in that over the years the focus of the exhibitors have shifted from full-time, commercial mills to small commercial, part-time and hobby mills. This just mirrors what is happening in the industry as a whole, as the membership ranks of this forum can attest.
About the only thing shown that interests me anymore is rolling stock, and I don't need to drive three or four hours to look at trucks and skidders. Still, I always try to attend just so I don't miss something. They moved the dates of the show this year, however. It used to be in mid-May, now it is in mid-June. In our parts that is the middle of first-cutting hay. If it rains I may drive out with a friend who runs a mill, but if it is nice I'll bale hay and go to Richmond next year.
Frickman
I hope to go on Saturday.
Richard
Is there a web site for the show listing vendors, events, etc? School out on the 12 and I'm itching for a road trip.
Shopteacher,
try this site www.hlma.org/timber2003/index.asp hope this helps
Doug
Thanks Doug,
Brought up the site and looks like everything I need to know is there.
I have to work Friday so looks like Saturday is my only option. ??? Not sure if it will take all day to see everything, but I will probably try to be there when it opens at 9:00.
I just checked the WEB site again and they still haven't posted the schedule of seminars.
Hope to meet some of you there. :) :)
John
We should set a time and place to meet.
How about 10:00 AM AT THE Wood-Miser display
Sounds good to me.
Is everyone still going on Sat going to meet at the Woodmizer display?
YES :D ;D
10:00 AM at the Wood-Miser display and will try to check back at 11:00 in case someone is running late.
Would be nice if one of the Friday attendees could post an update on parking or what to see. ??? ???
John
So who all is planning to go on Friday,I am planning to go then, and wondering where and when everyone is meeting?
Doug
I'm about 1/2 hr from the show. I was planning on going Friday to beat the crowd. I usually go in the afternoon. Weather is supposed to suck both days.
Parking shouldn't be any problem either day. I haven't seen too much advertising by the sponsors, other than mailings from old lists. The parking should be free. Overflow is usually directed to the HACC parking lot.
Dugsaws and Ron how about 12 noon at the Woodmizer booth on Fri. ? That is the day I will go as Sat is taken up for me. Hope to see you both there .
Pictures guys...
Parking is $5. Woodmizer, Baker and Timber Harvester have running mills. Cord King is making firewood, as well as some Hakki Pilke. Some nice add ons for those 4x4 tractors.
So, I went up again on Saturday and was at the Woodmizer exhibit at 10 AM. Where was everyone?
Ron
Sorry we missed you. ::) I was at the Woodmizer station from 10:00 to about 10:45. About 10:15 hiya and his son came over and introduced them self's. :o :D WV_hillbilly was coming but he changed from to Saturday to Friday at the last minuet, so we weren't expecting anyone else. ??? Next time we need to all wear pink shirts or something so we stand out. Well maybe not pink, but you get the idea.
Spent a couple hours walking around with hiya, checking out all the neat equipment. Was nice to talk to someone with an interest in milling. Most of my friends give me that (you must be nuts to do all that work) ??? ??? LOOK when I talk about sawing. :P
John
Well, I was standing there until about 11:00. The problem was I didn't know who I was looking for or at. :D I couldn't read everyone's name tag, and even if I could, you didn't have your forum name on it. I had a Timber Buyer Network hat on. I figured that would help set me apart from the crowd.
Hillbilly didn't make it Friday, but Dugsaws did and we chatted for about an hour or so.
Shirts would be the next step or a hat with a propellor on top. :D Better luck next time, I guess.
