Can you tell what it is?
muffler?
nupe. :)
rusted up piece of metal with a hole in it?
;D
Well technically.... :D
If you look close there really isnt much rust.
Gee, it's nice to know, when nobody else does. ;D :D :D :D :D :D
I know..I know.. it is somthing that is broken.
Thanks Mr Mom
not any more. :)
I know its an old Zebco that's seen better days :D
I'm kinda thinking it's something Jeff removed from the BBQ, while he was out there getting some winterized photos for Staples. ;D :D
Hi Boss is it a broken piston ??? ??? ???
Keep trying. :) those answers are a bit shaky. :)
I'll rotate in another view
(https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/whatz_dat_vibration1.jpg)
It sure is a small, whatever it is, by the looks of the grain in the wood under it. ::)
Must be something off one of them old saws in his junk museum collection. ;D
But, I'm also thinking with all the hinting going on, it's an auto part.
Look like a casting ladle.
Used to use them to hand pour aluminum in to molds.
Thanks alot Mr Mom
I haven't figured out what it is yet, but I'm a guessin' that it came off of that snow blower that Wildflower has been using out in the front yard.
Nope Tom not off the snow blower..... I am getting good vibe from some of the answers, Luckily i am not getting any vibes from this anymore. :D
Looks like some body furgot about da pot of beans on da stove. :D
dust cap ? off of a spindle
Bearing cap?
With the grease fitting torn off.
left overs of an aircleaner canister
that's a good one, Don. I'll go with that too. :)
the other half of an in-line crud / water seperator
I think its the brake drum off his hog.
'84 yamahopper moped.
am i close boss?
Tammy and I have decided to jointly give a scopious reply to those that have answered so far...
WE SAY, yer getting colder!
Looked like the end of a plasma cutter (expendables) until you rolled it over. Reid
:P hmm ??? I got it ! Its a old time attachment that bolts on to Jeffs bow and arrow and you wrap line around it and tie the line to the arrow when the the big suckers come up the river and it looks like the last time he used it he got a huge sucker and it broke this mystery piece off his bow and when he got that big sucker home he found his new penny loafer shoe inside of it too ! I win ;D NEXT ! 8)
I think it is one of those DanG things that unexpectedly go thru your snowblower.
It was probably just fine till Tammy ruined it.
Our snowblower got ruined about a month ago from something the mailman dropped off his truck.
Looks like part of a wheel...
But I ain't no mechanic!
asy :D
A part off one of your drag saws you are rebuilding?
So that's what the stock market looks like when the bottom drops out.
I'm thinking it had something to do with the springs or shocks on the pickup. Maybe even something off the steering column. Did I cover it all? ;D
It is a broken vibrator thingamajig off of Jeff's Lazy-boy chair. ;D
Looks like it could be a whistle of some kind. But I aint blowing on it .
Dale
Pigman musta put the pig farmer's collective universal thinking cap on to come up with that one! I dont even HAVE a Lazy boy. (RASBERRY SOUND) ;)
Another clue. It is automotive.
Looks like the remains of a Ball Joint or Tie rod end.
Did the front end of the vehicle shimmy a bit?
Lenny
Not it Lenny. It was not the front end, and I would not describe the symptoms as shimmy.
You guys have all the clues you should need with out me just flat out showing you the side view which will give it away to anyone that has ever worked on a vehicle. Luckily when we had trouble with this, Tammy's mechanics at the garage did the work.
Universal joint cap ? with no grease or bearing needles?
Looks sorta' like a front wheel drive universal shaft end, with the boot removed.
You are sure having fun with this one ;D Is it the remains of a CV joint?
The cap (or keeper) off the emergency brake cable. ???
Looks like the top, or what used to be the top, of the shock, except the dust/dirt/crud guard broke off of the ram that has the mount on it. Or something......
grease cup offa ball joint...
I hate to fall for this, but it looks like the top of a strut from the front end...would make lots of noise.. :D
My thought is a u-joint cap.
Generally the symptoms are " it didn't make any noise till it Broke" , usually followed by " what do you mean it's broke, it was fine yesterday"!
Sawhead is the good guesser! Man, I told you guys exactly what it was at one point. :D
Pigman musta put the pig farmer's collective universal thinking cap on to come up with that one! I dont even HAVE a Lazy boy. (RASBERRY SOUND)
Dontcha just hate stuff that aint got grease zerts. :-\
(https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/whatz_dat_vibration2.jpg)
Jeff, I know my guess was right, but you just wanted sawhead to feel good. ;) ;D
On '98 Dodges, maybe other years to, there's no greasing fitting on the ball joints. Ain't never had a truck that didn't need grease on ball joints. ::)
The first new truck I had was a 1981 Chevy half ton. We had to replace almost the entire front end at 30,000 miles. No way to grease the ball joints or the tie rods. And of course, those were the years of 12,000 mile 12 month warrantees and 17% interest.
I had the auto hubs on my 97 Ranger strip. It is a very weak design. Fortunately, mine is an early production and Warn has a kit to replace them with manuals. The later hubs and bearings are sealed so if they pile up, 700 bucks PER SIDE plus labour. Why??? Are replaceable parts and grease zerks that hard to produce?
That was fun can we have another ? ;D I had it scaled out to big like the size of a bow and arrow reel and here it was just a tiny u-joint cap >:(
Finally got a chance to read the post through and see what everyone guessed. Had a vision that it was probably was a u-joint cap and was gonna guess that but sawhead beat me to the punch. Guess I shoulda looked at the post earlier. ;D
Brad.
I think I got a mate to that cap Boss, several actually. ::)
I had a sort of bump, thud when I eased on or off the gitty-up-go pedal in the dually. I suspected the grease zerk-less driveshaft to be the culprit. Ok, actually I was praying it wasn't the rear end. ;)
The last U-joint at the rearend was so bad that two of the ends of the cross were worn down to an oval about half as thick as they shoulda' been. :o
Coupla' hunrid clams later it's back to smooth. ;D
Course while he was back there he pointed out that it's time fer 4 new skins on da back.... it's always sumat! ::)
Everytime I'm in the garage, it's a minimum of $700 bucks. ::)
