Post by: Lud on March 19, 2006, 09:23:41 PM

I'm gonna miss my sawmill, my farm, my dogs and my wife........(consider that order reversed for obvious,  self- preservation  reasons...........)

I'm not taking any more than I'm willing to lose- but anyone got any suggestions they'd care to share  about that little western town I have to spend the next 5 days? :o :o

1) If you do any shopping, go to one of the outlet centers. There is one about a mile south of the strip and one just SW of the downtown area. The casinos are outragously expensive. Go through Ceaser's new shopping area and you will see what I mean
2) Don't pay any attention to the " rated #1 or best of" hoopla. Everything is the best or rated #1 there.
3) If you want to go to any of the shows you can get your tickets online or take a chance of it being sold out. A way to get reduced rate tickets is to find a few places that advertise as such. the only problem is that they may not have tickets for the show you want to see. A second way is to find someone that can pretend to be your wife and walk into any casino on the strip. You will be hit with a salesman for one of those timeshare deals, ie go to a 2 hr sales pitch and get cheap tickets.
4) The tap water there is not so good and bottled water is outragously priced. If you go through a lot of water, go to a store and get a gallon to refill your water bottle.
5) When walking up and down the strip. there are lots of people standing there and giving out..."baseball cards"... They are NOT baseball cards and sometimes those people will sneak one in your coat pocket and I can assure you that you do not want your wife to find one of those cards when you get home.
6) cabs are spendy there so keep that in mind as far as traveling around.
7)  There are two mono rails at the strip. The smaller one goes to Mandalay bay to Excalibre. That one is safe. The other, bigger monorail, on the east side of the strip, has had some serious safety issues as of late 2004. I have not heard about any improvements so take that one at your own risk.
8) You can spend a lot of time just exploring the many casinos on the strip. Each one is unique.
9) The odds improve the further you get from the strip and the downtown areas. Find out where the locals gamble if possible. If you must gamble in one of the luxury casinos, keep in mind that they were built without financing. They were funded by the generosity of the gamblers who came before you...AND LOST.
10) The weekend Fremont experience (in the downtown casino area) is interesting and free.

Go to the "Strip" just so you can say you've been there.  Walk through Caesar's and maybe drop a few quarters.  See some of the other fabulous casinos, then head for downtown.  The Golden Nugget, and The Horseshoe are just a couple of the famous old houses there, and there are dozens of smaller casinos within just a few steps.

Keep your money where the pickpockets can't get to it, too. ::)  Most of all, have fun! 8) 8)

I kinda remember a fella telling me I could come home from Lost Wages with $ 100 if I went there with $ 200.

;D

Good Luck

A n old fella told me years ago "if you want to keep your money at the state fair ,keep your money in your mouth and keep your mouth shut"
I would think that advice would work at LV

The $0.99 buffet is worth just that, and it takes $2 of pep-to-bismol to get better.   Get the $10.00 Lobster, its worth it!

Just got back from the unreality of Las Vegas.  Man,  do I hate the whole air travel experience.  Actually lost a little less than projected - A few little runs, then the drain opens and back to negatives!

One of the shops in the Venetian has a heck of a woodcarver.  He tends toward the inanimate  , carving jackets, hats,  scarves hanging on hooks out of glued up pines or basswoods.  This time there was also a full set of golf clubs and bag too!  All finished natural with wax finishs.  Very attractive.....like the life-size nude girl standing in the shower he carved too!  Worth seeing!

So , back safe and sound in the real world, ready to get sawing! :)
