A friend of mine would like to turn a played out gravel pit into a pond (small lake) does anybody know of any environmental or federal grants that may be available for such a prodject?
this pond would be on a flight path of migratory birds and is in the middle of a 20,000 acre undeveloped tract in north central yooper land.

Worth asking the question of Ducks Unlimited.  I think they do most of their own projects but you never know.

Check with the  Soil Conservation Service, probably located at the local U S D A office.

In my county you get reimbursed almost all costs if you go into a conservation program like 10 years etc...    The D.N.R. or the county ag extension office .  Good luck with it  smiley_thumbsup

You could apply for a educational grant claiming that you want to build the lake to show students that with gravity the water will stay in the lake and not float off into space.   Write about gravity a lot.  Mention the poor deprived students not having any opportunities in life, no parents, no new car, etc. You could even throw in something about conservation, green house warming, and top it off with better act scores.  I suspect you could get a couple of million.
