This link will tell you all about Canada Day.  It was called Dominion Day until 1982 and that is when it became Canada Day.

Our small town has a big celebration every July 1st and there is a parade with logging trucks, tractors, kids, canoes, dogs, horses and old cars and Fire trucks and once in awhile ,even a frieght train.

Afterwards, the community gathers for games, visiting and eating and other entertainment.Jodi is at the fireworks display right now(10:15 pm) at the community center.

DanG good excuse for a party. Had a parade and stuff here for Canada Day but I missed it, out of town for a wedding. Apparently, it is a big deal in Stewart, an isolated community in northern B.C. The neighbors in Hyder Alaska come over and whoop it up. Then on July 4, everybody troops back to Hyder and it starts all over again :D

I been to both places and you gotta keep from blinking to find the place. ;D Ever been Hyderized? :D I'de be scared to death to live in Stewart in the spring and summer with all the melt waters scowering down from Bear Glacier. There's a great big freek'n avalanche that never melts out, just wears a snow cave on the underside. You can look across to the right of the highway and see nothing but water washed stones and boulders for several yards.  yikes_smiley

On another note, Stewart is the most northerly ice free sea port in Canada.
