In another thread on another place on the forum, I mentioned our new Pup Ice, now 7 months old had become a pool fool. With Great concern some members asked about her getting out of the pool in case she jumped in when we were not around, as pets sometimes drown in pools. Well that got me to thinking so I came up with something. Using a broken lawn chair that I have not thrown out because my sister gave it to me for my birthday and some cheap tie down straps that I dont use because they are Cheap tie down straps, we have come up with a quick pet ladder that can be flipped out of the way if we dont want it in there or taken off completely by unhooking the rubberized hooks. Ice took to it right away and we took video of her first attempt! SUCCESS!
Ice's pool ladder video. (Small file size) about 500k (https://forestryforum.com/media/pet_ladder.wmv)
Thanks for the concern folks that got me off my duff to make sure the furry kids are safe. :)

The weaved cord on this chair made it absolutely the perfect thing. The dogs can really get a footing on it. There are also a couple aluminum support underwater to help step on. She has been up it 15 or 20 times now and its really working well. Scooter can get up it to in case he was to fall in.
Glad yer keepin the kids safe, we don't need any more family tragedies ;)
By golly! That's some fine engineering, Brokaw's.
And a very smart dog also!
Red Green would be REALLY proud of you, Jeff :D
That looks really cool!
An ingenious solution to the problem.
asy :D
You must have some Yankee blood in you ! nice job !!!

I don't see any duct tape!
Its underwater.
I'd belive ya, but seeings how I tried to patch my liner with duct tape, I know the truth! :D
Excellent engineering ya got there Jeff !
as another Jeff might say.... you MIGHT be a .....
well, you get the picture :)
I'm already thinking about the next production model. 8)
They have this stuff called gorilla tape.........
Just cause I let the dogs in the DanG pool dont mean I'm letting the monkeys in it as well.
Or the Furbies eh? ;D
Gorilla tape has a thicker glue and is suposed to stick to things duct tape won't, never used it though.
And when you say Scooter do you really mean Jeff?????? :D :D
I like'd Buck's idea in another thread about a carpeted ramp. That would be good, and look good too.
You could make it hinged at the top of the pool so it flips out of the way. You know, just in case you want to make a whirlpool or something.
By the way, I believe there's already been monkey's in the pool, there was evidence in a previous post. You may not be able to see them, coz Scooter's standing on the boss one.
asy_hiding_now :D :D :D
Jeff you are truley a redneck :D :D I'm so proud!!!!!!!

Ummm, then wouldn't it be
duck tape then?? :D
smiley_deadheaders_buddy
No, that's what Asy is doing! ;D
Huh? What am I doing?
As usual, I am confused.
asy :D
Ducking!
Quack, Quack. splitwood_smiley yikes_smiley

I'm with Furby. Without duct tape there has to be a fault in the design. Plain old grey duct tape. Hanging loose and leaving adhesive on everything. AAAAAHHHHH.
Did yo-all see where they repaired the last space shuttle with duct tape before returning from space. My daughter queried why they would have duct tape along in the first place. ;D Guess she doesn't understand riding on a 'low bid' Gov't machine. :)
Wasn't it duct tape they used to help build the CO2 scrubbers that got the apollo 13 crew back alive?
A quick google to answer myself. YUP!
http://www.ghg.net/woodfill/Apollo_13_CO2_filter.htm
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT and MATERIALS
All required equipment is contained onboard within the Apollo 13 CM and LM.
Cover to the Apollo 13 flight plan (to cover and protect the hose entry)
2 lithium-hydroxide canisters
Roll of gray duct tape
2 LCG bags
2 hoses from the red suits
2 socks
1 bungee cord (to secure the modified filtration device to the wall of the LM)
Not worried about the pup putting a hole in the liner with a swipe of the paw?? I've seen it happen...
Totally cool! :)
We declawed him when we had her bark removed. ;D NOT REALLY PEOPLE!
We were worried about the liner to begin with but this pup is a pretty sharp character. She doesn't go anywhere near the edge other then where her exit is. I did clip her nails a little to blunt them but thats because of her trying to beat me to her frisby all the time and clawing up my back.
There is a nail file for pets as well that you can use after you clip the nails.
The file has a curve in it from side to side.
I've never saw one of those. She could use them.
:D Dont know which is funnier, the joke or the disclaimer. :D
If ya can't find one at the pet store, let me know.
I'll order one with my Mom's next order.
We made up a similiar device for the duck board on the back of the house boat. Steel frame with timber ladder treads that pivoted up when you were mooring or bringing another boat in alongside. The weight of the steel combined with the timber flotation kept it just low enought to allow a swimming paw to get a grip. retreiving dogs out of the lake during the day isnt so much of a prob..but when they decide to go for a quick dip at 0200 it is a little tiring. I will see if I can dig up pic to post over the weekend.
DTR
Jeff,
Is the new pup a replacement for poor old Sidney? Are you going to be in the market for a new Aussey?
Don, Ice is an Australian Shephard and is a mix of blue and red merle. Thats why all the white. In most instances they dont allow those pups to live as they dont want to taint the lines. She would normally have been killed. Because she had enough color around her eyes the determination was made that she probably would not have the typical eye problems that the mixing of two merle genes strains can get.
She cant replace Sydney, thats for sure, but she sure has wormed her way into having a home here.

There will be no more pool time for little miss ice today! Her and Juno decided to dig a hole together, of course ice had alreay been in the pool and was wet before she started. KIDS!

;D :D ;D :D ;D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Bet she doesn't get in the house. :D :D :D
hehe I was thinking just what Sawguy said...
Also, she looks like she's had a dye job!
asy :D
Oh, she got in the house. She got a hose bath shortly after the photo.
Sheesh ... Dont take much to get grounded from the pool at your place . smiley_whip
Marcel, if you show up here looking like that and expect to get in the pool, yer going to have to stand in the wash tub and get hosed down first too.
:D :D :D :D Marcel
Getting back to the dogs, glad you came up with a solution for their safety. This is the first I saw this thread. Watched the video also. Dogs ain't so dumb, eh? ;)
