Title: How do you stop all these free logs from coming? (pics)
Post by: Kelvin on August 31, 2006, 08:58:01 AM
Darn, these logs just keep showing up and messing up my lawn!  How do you guys keep them away?
after getting a load of red oaks the other day from the dump i felt i didn't have enough white oak now.  I guess the log sprites heard me cause we was driving to recycle our pop bottles for some grub money when we saw these fellers cuttin on some white oaks.  It was the biggest tree company in the area and i figured they would probably be selling them to someone, but nope, they just pile them up and burn 'em.  "300 yards long 5o yards wide, burns for a week!"  Wow!  They work about 30 some miles from me unfortuneatly as they don't wanna drive that far, so luck would have it they were on my side of town.  They actually drove out to our farm and dropped them off!  Sure beats fighting with the folks down at the marshalling yard!  Nice fellers!  Their big grapple loader made short work of setting them off nice like in the yard.  That big one must have weighed a bit at 14' long and full of sap!

Well, better get to work.  Maybe i need to put up a sign that says i accept logs only over 36"?  My cousin suggested we make them saw them up once to see how much work they are causing us!  Gotta figure something out.
;D

You're killin' me now. ;)  Nice score on the logs.  30 minutes isnt a bad drive.  Would they be willing to let you salvage logs from their yard?

I remember saying to myself once, "I'm kinda low on Red Oak".  Now it's coming out of my ears! :D  I thought I was on to something, so then I told myself,  " Some extra Walnut would be nice."  That was two years ago and guess what ...no walnut yet. :D :D

I agree with Snag, 30 miles isn't too bad.  Maybe they will let you mill there for a couple days?  Trade the owner a few boards for the access to his logs.

Oh well, you know people. They just gotta complain about something.

I can remember many times people complaining they weren't busy enough, then once the pace picked up they had to go on vacation. I never seen the likes of it.  ::)
