I have a husquvarna 2100cd with a 32" oregon bar and woodsman chain. The saw cut well at
first. As I was cutting a log from the bottom up the chain came off. The chain was tight when this happened. This same thing has happened two times since. Any help would be appeciated! :-[
If the chain was for a fact tight, then I'd look for something out of alignment, or bent.
Maybe a new chain on a worn sprocket.
Having the chain pop off isn't fun, as I remember. Usually was when I was cutting brush however. Never when cutting with the log above the bar.
Does the chain pitch match the drive sprocket and bar nose sprocket?
The pitch does match the sprocket. I did not install a new sprocket with the new bar and chain. Could this really be the problem.
Check for damage to the bar rail just behind the nose sprocket. It is probably grooved which will result in repeated failures. Did you attempt to file the burred chain drivers?
yes I did file the damaged drivers. Is this a bad idea?
If any more than light filing is required I would deep six the chain. The drivers need to be in good shape to maintain proper contact with the sprocket and bar.
I finally had time to mess with the saw. I installed a new oregon 72lg full comp chain. The saw cut all day with no problems. could the skip tooth chain have been causing the thrown chains?
I have notice that the full comp sure vibrates less than the skip.
Sounds like you had a problem with the way that chain was setup. With a sharp chain and the keeping the revs up when you cut you shouldn't notice too much difference in vibration between skip and full comp. I run both regularly and don't notice much difference. If skip chain was more lkely to get thrown you wouldn't see so many pros using it as a first choice.
I'll let the wiser ( I bet I can't say older) ones here sort out the details of what you had happening.
