QuoteThanks for the comments and the info on that site. I have really enjoyed all the comments posted. I bought that mill in England as a basket case and have totally rebuilt it and changed it from an electric powered unit to a diesel and hydraulic saw. We can cut through an 8 foot diameter log. Dolmar does not make this saw anymore but it is the only way to cut these huge logs I find all over the world. It was originally made to break down huge African logs to then be sawn on head-rigs. They still use them in Europe for the same purpose. I do a lot of quartersawing and use it to quarter big logs and also to slab huge logs like the Bastogne Walnut log on our site.
Thats from the owner :)
Here is the whole thread.

It's a fantastic site. The wood is awesome. I just wish they'd drop the use of "PORN". I know it is just a word but when i see their ads in magazines it is such an immediate turn-off that I think to myself "These guys would never get any of my business . . " I am sure I am not the only one.
I can't imagine why anyone would want to associate their business with a word that is universally acknowledged as carnality gone mad, and the picture it paints in your head of the demeaning of women.
The wood, the setup, the operation behind the cheesy name is awesome and could very well speak for itself without the reference of the aweful industry the word represents.
Edit: I should probably add that while I have given my unsolicited opinion about their business decision to use the word in what I believe is a sensationalistic marketing ploy, I fully support their right to use the word.
I don't know nothing about the Domar thing but I spotted an Wood-Mizer LT70 and an LT40 in the pictures. ;D
thanks for posting, kevjaym couldnt agree more
I know what you mean kevjay, but I take it as what it is, tongue in cheek humor from a guy that probably does not own any of it.
Nice Dolmar mill, probably costs more then some houses I have lived in.

it cost more than any house i ever lived in :)
Well I am very interested in an semi-industrial slabber for large diameter woods. My original home project of specialty woods has grown and gone under the wind of my current employer. I will probably be using a new handle here of SCOPAC495 to keep work seperate.
This mill looks very promising, and the 8 foot capacity will handle 90 percent of my logs. Ido have some far larger than that, but they typically need quartered by saw. 12 feet is pretty much our limit, and is done by saw.
Since these are no longer made, what would your recommend???

Someone inquired about the price and IIRC, it was about $30K.
This is a big slabber that Lucas manufacture in Aussie.

It doesn't have the ability to quarter big logs like that Dolmar saw does, but it will happily slab logs up to 9 ft dia ;D
Sorry, they didn't have any prices on it, and I figured if I had to ask I couldn't afford it, but it did work well. :)
Cheers
Ian
Thanks, I will look into it.
We have a truck mounted ripper that can halve and quarter if we need to.

With that log splitter and the resaw, I might just be in business when we add this to the LT40
