Title: Somethin I been studying on
Post by: Saki on February 23, 2003, 09:43:48 AM
Any of you folks out there make your own chainsaw chains from a bulk roll of chain? Would you be willing to share the advantages/disadvantages with me? Have you found to be a good move? What approximate cost to set up a deal like that? What equipment is required?

I run a husky that I use the oregon 3/8 full chisel chain on. If I remember that is a 72LG type chain for a 20 inch bar. If any body has insight they would be willing to share, I would be obliged. Thanks Saki.

For the average guy it isn't worth it.
A chain will last a long time if it's maintained properly.
I have the spinner and the breaker but seldom use it.

I agree with Kevin, it's not worth spending the cash on a roll that will last you forever.
I have three chains and that's it! I've had them for about a year and I find if I sharpen them just as they start to go dull they last for a very long time. If you let them go really dull then it takes forever to sharpen them and they don't last as long.
