Title: You know it's a small world when ...
Post by: Brucer on March 04, 2007, 03:08:55 AM
... you go to a party in a tiny city in southern BC, and the second person you meet is a fellow sawyer ... from Wisconsin ;).

My wife's a member of the local fitness centre. When they had a 2nd birthday party celebration for members and guests, I got dragged along as a "guest". Figured it was a good networking opportunity, so I stuffed a bunch of business cards in my pocket before I left.

Right off we ran into one of Barb's friends, and met her guests. "Jim's got a sawmill, too", she told me. Turns out Jim & his wife come here every winter for a couple of months to visit with family. Well, it wasn't long before we were off in a corner, talking sawmills and sawing. He's got a TimberKing B-20 and saws mostly hardwoods (naturally).

Jim's not a FF member (yet), but he left the party with one of my business cards with the FF URL written on the back. Hopefully we'll be hearing from him when he gets back home.

And, Dang it, that was the only business card I gave out all night. Talkin' with another sawyer sure sucks up the time, don't it ;D.

Theres some theory or "law" or whatever the word is, called 9 degrees of seperation. Supposidely you can go anywhere in the world, talk to anybody and they will know someone you know or someone who knows someone you know,on down the line to within 9 times. Might be 7, im not sure. Anyway im constantly amazed in my travels how I meet someone who's a friend or relative of someone I know. Scary almost, can't get away with anything, anywhere. :D

It's 6.

The Six degrees of separation.

And yes, it works, it's a great party game!

And, Brucer, the best way to 'park' a man is to get him talking to another man about his 'hobby'...  :D

asy :D

I never cease to be amazed at where I meet people. I have met cousins at work ...twice :o I did not know one of them existed, the other I knew about.

What's a 'Hobby', Asy??

I don't have time for any of that stuff. I'm too busy trying to make a living with my Dang fool sawmilling business ;D.
