Title: Goggles would have been much better
Post by: Jeff on July 30, 2007, 01:18:48 AM
I'm up at 1:15 and very tired but cant sleep because of my very irritated eyes.  When I got home from the U.P. I changed the fuel filter on Jeremy's bronco.  I put side shield wrap around safety glasses on and crawled under.  I thought I had most of the gas out of the line and filter but was wrong. I got a big splash right on top of the glasses. At least it gave be a second to shut my eyes tight before it ran on down the glasses and into my eye sockets. By the time I got my big self out from under the truck and into the kitchen sink, both eyes felt like they were on fire.  About 5 minutes of flooding with water and the fire went out for the most part.  I went back out, crawled under again, tipped the filter to make sure the gas was all out of it now, which it appeared it was, then started taking the other  hose off. Boy am I a dummy. Exact thing happened again. This time the fire feeling didn't go out near as quick.  If I would have had goggles, I would be sleeping by now.  I'll be getting me some to have around for the next time I am working with liquids.

Ther are different types of goggles Jeff. Make sure you get splash proof chemical goggles. Hope you get some sleep soon.

I hate it when that happens.  Splashed pure methanol in my eyes once.  After standing in the shower with my eyes in the stream for about 20 minutes I got it rinsed out.  Eyes were very blood shot and sore for a day or two.  Wear sun glasses and stay out of the wind.  You have removed the protective layer off your eyes and air hurts.
A cold beer will stop the head ache as will a couple three aspirin.  But why waste good aspirin.

If you washed 'em down with the beer would it still be a waste?

For those of you who do not know, getting anti-freeze in your eyes can lead to blindness (gets absorbed into the eye) and you have to go to the doctor's to have them flushed within 20 minutes or so.

Chemical goggles with splash proof vents are worth the money.

If your eyes still hurt after 24 hours, you probably should see a doctor.

Now you tell me!
I have had anti freeze, deisel fuel, gas, laquer thinner, paint gun cleaner, and you name it in my eyes and I can still see. Although I have ruined countless pairs of contacts :o

Jeff, Maybe you should put a clear platic bag over your head when your under the vehicle ;D

ya, mebbe that would work for 30 seconds or so. :D   I had a miserable day today and didnt get a blame thing done. My eyes feel much better but the headache only went away a little bit ago. Hopefully I get some sleep tonight cause tomorrow I gotta powerwash 50 plastic chairs, 10 cookie tables, the back sidewalk, the driveway and the food tent, clean the deck, test the roaster and clean it again, plant some more plants tammy has, vacuum the pool, pull the grass around the log sled, test my version of the furby launcher/dumper/neuterer, mow the spot for the spot a pot coming in, pick up dog mines, and a few udder things.  :)

Jeff, don't forget to leave a few things for the early crew to do Friday afternoon.  After all it sounds like they might need to work up an appetite.  ;)
