Much truth in that essay.
We all have the power to bring it in line but unfortunately many of us do not vote or vote the party line without bothering to find out where the candidates stand.  In many ways we get what we deserve  :o

Freedom is the ability to publish a spiel like that without being shot.  Freedom is being able to say you're "against the war in Iraq" when your country deems it necessary. Freedom is the absence of taxation without representation.

Freedom requires that you speak up for your freedoms and stand behind the rules and regulations that guarantee them.  Voting your heart is Freedoms tool.

"Another Wake Up Call"   People need to get involved, Vote and Stand up for their beliefs.  Too many of us vote on election day and feel like we have taken part in the process that directs our lives. We read the Papers or watch TV about a month or two before these Media Reported and Hyped Elections and let one or more minute'  issues persuade us on which of two or three candidates we should vote for. "What A Joke"  Our freedoms are being stripped away in an errosive way as a result of most of us failing to look beyond our own tiny little selves and individual interests !  We laugh at the ACLU and the amount of Lawyers being turned out by our universities until we as an individual need one.   "Freedom" is what you make of It and lets hope we don't need somebody to come along and Liberate us cause their ain't anybody else out there.  We all better get off our ass and get involved in our neighborhoods, communities, cities, countys and yes states too  ! We tithe to the churches and give to charities and then do nothing but bitch and bitch when some bunch of unquallified pissant elected officials take away our freedoms one by one !  Yea I guess I'm a fanatic and no I ain't sorry !

Very good to hear this side of it. A lot of posts recently have been way overbalanced in the other direction, with a lot of nastiness directed toward those who raise the very points you are supporting here- implying that this tyupe of wariness is disloyal or unAmerican. It's just plain sense to watch out for your freedom, and to demand accountability in government activity. We are not cattle or sheep. Government of the people, by the people, for the people. Due process and habeus corpus- we've had em for a long time, and we've seen what happens when overzealous government agencies get carte blanche and a free rein to trample constitutional rights. It's what we are fighting to preserve. Let's not trample it ourselves, assuming it will only affect those 'other guys'.
