For some very strange reason I've had the desire to deep fry some fruit.
I want to use a batter that will keep the sweetness rather than take it away.
Thinking along the lines of peaches, pears and apples.
Anyone have any suggestions?
This might be interesting, I have never heard of it being done.
With hot enough oil, you can deep fry almost any food.
I figure if they can deep fry icecream, fruit would be easy. ;)

Banana Fritters
Ingredients:
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 medium firm, ripe bananas
Oil -- for frying
Confectioners' sugar
Into a small bowl sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. In another small bowl, beat eggs, milk and oil together with a rotary beater or whisk. Combine liquid ingredients with dry ingredients; stir until all flour is moistened.
Slice bananas in half lengthwise; dip into batter using fingers. Drain any excess butter. Drop bananas into at least 2 inches hot oil (375º degrees F. on deep frying thermometer) in a deep skillet or deep-fat fryer. Fry a few at a time, turning once, 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown.
Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately, sprinkled with confectioners' sugar.

An old fashioned recipe for apple fritters, or use another fresh fruit.
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon melted shortening
2 large apples
oil for deep frying
Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture; beat until smooth. Add shortening and mix well. Peel and core apples; cut into 8 wedges. Dip apple wedges into batter and fry in 370° oil for about 4 minutes, or until brown.
I'll try this again someday using a batter. ;D

Furby, right now I'm enjoying some onion rings that I did up in a beer batter. This batter is so easy even you could do it. ;D
Bust an egg in a bowl.
Dump in a beer.
Mix in flour until it becomes a batter, then add a bit more flour.
Season to taste.
For the O/Rs, I used some seasoned salt. For your fruits, you might want to add a bit of sugar instead.
How about a pancake batter? I think thats what the funnel cakes at the local fair is fried with.
