Title: first day winter logging too mild need cold
Post by: Quebecnewf on January 11, 2008, 07:47:28 PM
Well we went in cutting today for the first time this year. Only -6 C here this morning too mild. We cut 23 total not too bad for the first try . Logging is like starting a hockey season you have to get in game shape. Pretty stiff tonite. Better tomorrow, maybe.

Here we are on the way in . The sun is just coming up and it was a real nice morning

This is a birch that a beaver felled this past fall. All the top of the tree had been eaten. This tree has 14" at the butt

Here I am trimming up a nice spruce I got 3 logs of 10' of this one . It was real fun hauling this to the path in the snow.

They never seem too big until it comes to move them

-45C is too cold for cutting. Its not the work in the cold thats the problem. Its getting things to go in the morning. |I find the cold is better when your working as you don't get wet but when your chainsaw is at -45C it can be a challenge getting it started and chain oil will not pour.

We have rain and fog here today .We had snow last night . I am going in after lunch to make a track down through my path and then tomorrow when the temp drops it will be nice and hard.
Supposed to be colder here starting on Monday.
