I have a crotch to cut tomorrow. It was from a pine double header, it is 48" long (one stem each side 24x24) and 24" wide and about 48" tall. Should I try to cut rounds (48"x24" and 3" thick) that I know will eventually split or try to make matched boards with my 28" chainsaw? Just don't know which might be best for selling and using.
I was at a person's house to cut a tree and saw the biggest burl in my life.
It was a post oak and it was about 40" diameter and perfectly round and fairly smooth with a 20" tree inside. What would this be worth if I decide to buy it if I wanted to offer the guy 1/3 - 1/2 of retail? I imagine it is beautful inside. He wants to turn it into a seat when the tree is cut, but, I think it could do better and the guy has a beautiful house so I am sure it wouldn't mind it being used instead for something really nice.
And a pic would be nice.... 8)
I have never seen a pine crotch that was worth any amount of time screwing around with. Every one of them had deep bark inclusions and I have never seen an example of feathered pine crotch. My 2ยข is don't waste your time and energy on it.
