So, anybody seen one of these recently?

That looks like a old mail box for a city home. ???
Looks like an old mail box or a handy case to keep a rat. I guess the wire at the bottom is for a newspaper or large envelopes?
First, define "Old Timer" ::) ::) ;D
Old Timer.... anyone who knows what this is, or has seen one before. :D :D
It is an old cast iron mail box.
Well they are still used around the towns around here. There is some mighty old mail bows hanging on some of the houses too. That is until someone decides they are worth money and steals them. ::) So you can be pretty young to see one like that in this area anyways.
I haven't seen one around these parts for close to 20 years. The town here requires all residents to have PO Boxes. :(
In Port Huron, the postal workers still beat the streets six days a week. :)
They don't have city carriers here anymore. Everything is rural carriers who provide their own transportation.
We have rural carriers here. But in Port Huron they drive postal trucks/jeeps with the driver on the wrong side. :D
seen a chevrolet van that didnt have the steering wheel on the wrong side not to long ago and was a postal vehicle
my granparents had one next to each fire place to hold the long matches, and you would strike them on the cast iron face to light the match worked great.
