OK - So I might be in the market for a new saw. I have a 262 XP that may need replacement (or maybe I'll fix it & get a new one anyway ;D). I have a 24" bar for the 262XP. What new saw would you folks recommend that maybe has a bit more power for driving the 24" bar? The 372XP? And will my 24" bar fit it? I bought the saw back in '94, the 24" bar is a bit newer, and I don't use it much either.

We will galdly help here,but a good dealer will help you too.Help you out with taking your money out of your wallet too. :D I would agree with Cut4fun.I'm no saw expect,but one is a kinda small saw and the 372 is a big one. Lurcherman, welcome aboard. What the others have said, the 357XP and 359 are the largest saws currently available with the small bar mount. They are underpowered for a 24" bar. I liken it to hooking a 35' 5th wheel travel trailer to a 6 cylinder half ton. It can be done but don't ask the truck to pull it up a mountain pass. ;D The 372XP is great with a 24" and lighter than the new 570/575.
Thanks folks - Yeah, I found my original receipt and I paid $600 for it back in '94. I got it from a small power equipment shop nearby. I would imagine I'd get my next saw from the same place. There are several small shops within 15 miles and they are all good places.
So no matter what I'm definitely going to rebuild it if I have to. I think it's a keeper. I put all the current Husky models into an Excel spreadsheet, and when I sort by power, displacement, weight, whatever - the 362XP ends up next to the 262XP every time.
Am I right in thinking the 362XP basically the same saw?

How does $780 sound for a 372XP with a 24" bar? Too much? Just right? A good deal? ???
How about a Stihl 440 it has plenty of power for the 24's

I will not tell the dealers in open. But here is what I see saws going for.
I was going to say something about the Dolmars, but they take the large Husky bar.
If you go with the Dolmar (I love both of mine) I'd go for the 7900 or if you just want more power, the 9010. If you don't need the 9010's power, the 7900 is a nicer saw.
I've never heard of, or seen, Dolmar saws before. But then again, there's a lot I don't know!

I've always run Husky but I recently bought my 1st Dolmar and really like it! We used to call them dull mores. I'm not sure why, just thought it sounded funny I guess and nobody seemed to run them.I always considered them a homeowner saw but now have changed my mind. They are dang zippy but time will tell about longevity, durability, stuff like that.

I have Stihl products, and they're really good stuff too - I just like Huskys better for some unknown, indescribable reason.
Interesting though that Stihl has a new "pre-filtration system". Husky has had their "air injection" on their saws for what, 20 years?
My 262XP wears a 20" bar most of the time, I almost never put the 24" on. But I'm also thinking of getting an Alaskan mill for small logs and would use something like the 372XP, or maybe a Stihl 441 with that I think.
I like the Stihls myself, but I really liked my 394xp, I will get it rebuilt one of these days. The air injection and spring suspension on the 394 is excellent.

Husky got their air filter system when Electrolux bought Jonsered for their Turbo Air cleaning system. Huskys are just orange Jonsereds ;) ;D

Can't forget about the MS361 (I read on another site that it may be a cure for cancer but i don't know if there is any truth about that :))
I have 2 MS361's and like them alot , I also have a Jred CS217 ,that one is kick ashh and a whole lot of fun to use (same as husky 371) and just like dave i have a 394 for a project (I need some parts if anyone has any) .
There is a real noticable difference between a 60cc saw and a 70cc saw but at the end of the day they feel the same on the body .

Not at all, basically the same as the 372xp, with a smaller engine - more weight and less power then the 262xp.

I almost bought a 394XP. That's a lot bigger than my 262XP.
I was going to use it with an Alaskan mill, but I haven't bought it yet, so I can wait a bit, I think.
