Hi all, I finally got this situation sorted out:

What it ended up being was sawdust in the carb vent as Chris Browne described.
Unfortunately, by the time he came across the thread, the engine was already at the second tech's shop. Both the first guy and myself had the carb apart, and failed to find this. I can excuse myself for my inexperience, but the first tech should have caught it. He was even told about the problem by the shop he sent it to. ::)
To his credit, though, he did not charge me for any of his time, which was probably a considerable amount of hours.
Anyway, it is all done with now, and running fine again.
Actually, I got it mostly put back together about a month ago, but have been avoiding it for many reasons. Between the general hassle of it all, and my shoulder problem, I've just been wanting to ignore the whole situation. It just got to be one of those things that got me down just thinking about it.
Plus, I've had other things to do. :D
So yesterday, I managed to get over my anxiety about it, tied up the rest of the loose ends, loaded up a log, and started sawing. Took my time and didn't push myself, and it went just fine. :)
So, I'm feeling a lot better about things, now, but I am still thinking I will sell the mill once I finish up the logs I have waiting.
I still want to have a sawmill for my own personal use, but that will only be a few logs a month, and I still have 2 1/2 years of payments on this machine, which are just not in the budget anymore. If I sell it, I can pay it all off, and have enough left over to get a new electric LT15 which should suit my needs just fine.
So anyway, that's where I'm at right now. Sorry if I've been a bit distant, but I've been in major avoidance mode about all this, as well as just kinda lacking in the social skills department. :D
I really do appreciate all the help and support I've gotten here over the years. :)
Perhaps a move would be of some benefit. I can understand how you would be feeling living in a town called Dismal :D It is easy to get down. Been there myself , things always look up sooner or later.
Hey! If this rain keeps up, you may have to cut logs somewhere up the hollow and float them down the creek to the saw! Glad you're out and at it again, even if in a limited way. It's good for ya (even if costly) :)

Ya, I rigged up a centrifugal clutch a while back, but by then I'd already messed my shoulder up to where I just needed to lay off it to avoid real serious damage.
It's doing a lot better now, but I still have to take it easy.
Dismal is quite a nice place to live, actually. Just today someone remarked on how they never understood how it came to be called that. I said it probably happened in February. :D
It's been wet here alright, but we're far enough up the hollow we don't ever get flooded out. Didn't see ya at the yard sale today, Greg. What a zoo, though! :o

It's been so rainy here I strung the bedsheets up on the clothesline and sailed the whole yard out to Watertown. ;D

I have the 24 honda too, on my Peterson. It does not idle real well. I suspect that this thread will help me fix it.
Mr. Woodbeard, did you bother to go back to the FIRST engine tech that worked on your Honda, and let him know what the actual problem was? Since he basically worked on it for free, and was unable to fix it, I am sure he'd appreciate your feedback, for his information, and future reference.

The first tech was at the dealer where I bought the engine, and he's the only one I ever spoke with. The second one was the regional distributor, where the first guy sent the engine to when he couldn't figure it out, and picked it back up from when it was done. So he knows all about it now. The thing that kinda bugged me was that before he sent it there, he had asked them for advice on it, was told to check for this problem, and still failed to find it. But, like I said, he was decent enough to not charge me for his time, and now he has a better idea of what to look for in the future. No big deal now, it's all done with, just seemed a bit odd at the time is all.
I still don't know exactly where this vent is, but Chris Browne and the Peterson folks do, so I would ask them about it, I'm sure they would be more than happy to help you.
