I'd like to build a small (12'x10') shed made from pine logs taken from my property. I know it's over kill but I just like the look of logs and want it for the novelty more then anything.

What I need to know is, do i need to dry the logs first or can I just cut and mill them and start using them?  Also, any suggestion or links for jointing would be a big help. I'm thinking of building it using square logs because it just seems it would be easier for someone like me with no experience to work with. I don't want to get real fancy, in fact the more simple the plan the better. Thanks!

You could use a butt and pass system.  Here's a sample:

There are other types of notches, but this one is pretty simple.  There is also a saddle notch and a dovetail notch.

You will get shrinkage with the green wood.  That means you have to make allowances above any doors or windows.  You can saw them, and put them on stickers for about 6 months.  They should be dry enough by then.

Ron, thanks for the link!  So I need to wait six months before there dry enough to start building hey? Guess it won't happen this year then. Oh well, thanks for your help, I appreciate it. :)
