This is Archie and Willy I made the arch/carrier out of scrap 5" tubing and 16" wheels on stub axles

The arch is made to fit between the tracks of the mill, the bunks are 38" long, so the arch can pass right over them. I have a chain hoist in the center of the arch to lift the logs and then chain them on each end over the backbone to stabilize the log.

Pushing the arch with the front of the Jeep makes it a lot easier to get it into the mill, there's only about a foot clearance on each side. I'm only moving the logs a couple of hundred yards. So backing up to the mill is not a big deal.

This is a couple of days of work, mostly 2x8s 2x6s and 4x4s. Most of it destined for decking over a couple of 50+year old floating log docks that we have
That's a fine stack of lumber. Doesn't it make you feel special to have your own sawmill while everyone else is buying their 2x4, a stick at a time, from the lumber yard, as they can afford it?
How do you keep yourself focused with that body of water in the background? It looks as if it is just begging for someone to lighten the stress on it by removing some of the fish. :D
Oh yeh it's pretty tough on me when I'm at the camp hmm.... fishing........ or milling!!!!!!! Not only do we have our main lake but about 8 others within easy walking distance, all with Rainbow Trout in them. :)
8) nice lookin' set up there 8)
Is that beetle kill in the background there? :-\
Yes, we have lost all our mature lodgepole to the beetle, even some of the small stuff has gone. Heh we all know pine usually doesn't live past 150 yr, either beetle or fire get it, and at this point I'll take beetle, lets hope we don't get both.
There is a lot of balsam and spruce in the area as well, especially on the north faces of the hill. It is interesting to see the other species flourishing as the pines have stopped taking moisture and nutrients from the soil. And as the needles fall, alot of other things get a better look at the sky. It still sucks when all the big pines we have enjoyed around camp will now have to come down. Oh well there's a better view of the lake.
Have the little buggers gotten as far as you yet Sprucegum?
No sign of the nasty critters yet and we had a pretty good cold snap that might have knocked them down. I'm on the Eastern border of Alberta so they may take a while to get here.
Those beetle tracks can make some neat looking features in fireplace mantles, bed steads, etc. Make'em work for you ;) :D
