I'm looking for plastic cases to store / transport my Stihl 064's in. The case that came with my MS 310 is too small for the 064. Does Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo... have a case large enough to fit the 064, if so do you know the part number and price? Or is my only option to make one out of plywood. If you have made a box for your saws could you post pics. I really don't like the saw just sitting in the back of the truck unprotected.
You can use a cheap plastic tote box and cut a hole for the bar and guard to stick through.
The one size fits all cases from Stihl and Husqvarna are designed for the smaller consumer saws. Guess they figger real loggers don't buy cheap plastic cases. :D
I have one plastic case I can put a 066, 375, 357,5000 in and lift the whole thing in the bed of the truck for transporting. Longer bars come off and lay on the bottom of the case with saws on top.
Here is a older pic when the 7901 was in there instead of the 375.

Here's the storage box for my 335 ...

I had the same problem with my 385xp. I put up with no case for a while, but came across a Rubbermaid truck box in wally world. Works great and fits perfectly. I elected to take the bar of my saw instead of cut a hole. I think either way will work fine. I use mine when I'm carrying the saw in the back of the truck so for me taking the bar off wasn't a big deal. I also use a small bucket boss bag for all my other junk. It fits in the big case as well.

Whats the model number of that rubber made box? I like that one and have a use for one like that too.
Off the top of my head I don't know, but I'll see if I can come up with the model number. I do know they are hard to find. I have a couple of others that are bigger. One is a full sized cross bed truck tool box, the other is a smaller one. Got all 3 at walmart but I rarely see them any more. I just kind of stumbled across the one I use for my saw. I'll see If I can come up with a number tomorrow.
If no number can be found, take the picture in to walmart and hope the sevice desk clerk knows something. They should be able to find it for you.
I looked this afternoon when I got home and on the bottom of the box it says:
Rubbermaid
7718
on the inside of the lid it says:
D91-7718-B1
Hope this helps. I think it is called a Rubbermaid Truck Box or maybe a small Truck Box.
I did buy this at a super walmart. I think sometimes the super stores cary more or different items than the regular stores.
Thanks for the pictures guys. I decieded to build one out of some 1/2"OSB scrapes I had laying around. The box is 17"x 43"x12 1/2" & is big enough for both of my Stihl 064AV's w/ bars on ( one having a 25" bar on it ) along w/ a gallon of gas, quart bottle of Amzoil Saber 2-cycle oil, gallon of Stihl bar oil, a quart gear oil bottle full of bar oil, several chains, 36" bar, gloves, safety glasses, 2 screnches, measuring syringe for mixing gas. Unfortunately the box is a little big & heavy for a one man to put in the truck easily. I'll try to post a picture when I get all the compartments nailed together & I find out where the wife hid the cable to the camera.
I'm looking forward to those pics. I'm always looking for a better way to store and carry my big saw.
I have to get my hands a pnuematic stapler & 1 1/2" staples. I think a friend & my dad each have one. I'll try to get ahold of one this week & finish putting the box together. Then it's just a matter of firing up the saws and cutting the slots for the bars to rest in. I like how it's turning out, I just wish it wasn't so heavy when fully loaded. Maybe I'll try getting a picture up tonight before I get it all put together. I got the idea from my Grandpa, he has a couple smaller saws in a wooden box for cutting firewood for his wood stove.
It seems that I can't upload any pictures. Can I e-mail them to someone to post them.
I would guess you are not down sizing the pictures enough.Let us know what the error message is.You need to click on to "help" at the top of the page and go to "posting pictures to the foresty forum". Read this and do what it says.We will help you through it.It does look like a lot,but it does get easier.Jeff tries to help out the people, like me,on dail up.I would not want you to send me a picture without down sizing it.It take at least an hour to get it. >:( If you are going to send pictures to other friends you really should down size first anyways.

Good job on the carrying box, and great job on the pics. You can help pass on instructions and encourage the next member who is a bit frustrated over putting up pics here...most of us have been there.... ;D ;D
Nice job on the box and even better on the pictures.Do I see 9 spare chains? You are ready.

I currently have 3-36" chains, 4-25" chains, & 3-20" chains for my 2 064's, & 4-18" chains for my MS 310 & 3-16" chains for my 020T ( counting the ones on the saws ). I need one more 20" chain to fill my empty box ( @ work we buy 100' rolls & don't use the retail boxes that come with the chain ), but I'll have to wait until the guys at work break off a few cutters on one of the 84DL chains so I can make myself a 72DL chain. I have yet to buy a chain for any of my Stihl's, unless you count the two that came with my MS 310 when I bought it.
Nice job on the case. :) I like the concept. Everything in its place. Good design. I may have to steal that idea myself. ;D
Thanks guys. Go for it, if you need any build details let me know. I started by setting all the stuff that I wanted in the box on my work bench and got everything layed out with 1/2"-3/4" spaces between eveything. Next I built the main box. Then I cut my dividers and placed them & the stuff in the box. After everything fit I stapled all my dividers together & I have some 2x4 & 2x6 cut-offs screwed in under the bar areas to keep the bottom from falling out. Finally I fired up the saws & let them cut there own grooves for the bar to sit in.
Red,
That's one mighty fine box, and a place for everything, and everything in its place.
I wonder how the design would go in checkerplate aluminium, with lockable and weatherproof lids?
Now, the most frightening thing a chief engineer can hear-..."Chief, I think I can see a way of making this better"!
If I could afford the aluminum to build it & I learned how to weld alum. w/ our spool gun at work then I would. I have thought about making a lid for it though, but mostly to keep bark and stuff out of the box.
