OK ther is some pine there also
Winters a comin'. There is no time like the present to stock up on fuel. ;)
Load of maple I hauled in on last Sunday, nice tree, just up & fell over on a private road near me. No one that lived up there owned a saw, I was more than happy to open up the road, haul away all that messy tree - :D
(https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11530/maplex.jpg) Nice wood, can be a real bear to split around the crotches though. Also, if the round chunks dry some, they will just explode off the splitter wedge. Some years ago one got me in the knee, thought I'd never walk right again. >:(
I too have experienced the dry maple explosion syndrome.
thinking I should make a bigger splitter, got a line on a 6.5 by 8 steel beam that looks to be 3/8" thick. At 24 foot long she wants $250 for it. Good deal?
That would be a W8 x 24 or a W8 x 28 and would be about 576 #.
