Title: Any slabbers?
Post by: Faron on February 18, 2009, 08:30:18 AM
I have a customer needing a big ugly walnut crotch slabbed.  Anyone near southern Indiana have a swing mill with a slabber interested in this?  He also visits his sister in Chicago once in a while, so that area is do-able for him as well.

If the log is at least 6' long a circular mill would be a good choice

Welcome to the Forestry Forum jimparamedic .

Generally a circle mill will only clear about 20" of wood. A slabber on a swing mill can do 5 foot wide.

I too have been looking for someone in South to Southeastern Indiana. We attempt to cut large walnuts on WM mills, we can get them to work, but I nearly loose my religion doing it.

Maybe try Kent McPherson near Nashville.
