Do any of you know where I can get replacment points for my old 028. I'd like to keep it around awhile. Thanks Jason
You should be able to get most of the parts from any Stihl dealer.
cheers
John
Thanks but they don't want to mess with the points and I don't want to spend the 250 to have them install the electronic ignition.-Jason

I think that what you're saying is that your Stihl dealer doesn't want to service your Stihl chainsaw with Stihl points? If this is the case, then you should look up the phone number for Stihl corporate HQ in whatever country you're in and call them - they'll be a bit *pithed....and might even offer to do it for you if you ship them the saw.
Or is it that they can't get the parts? If this is the case (which is possible considering the age), then the points should be available from an aftermarket source such as an auto parts store (a real one, not a hardware chain...)
Where are you?
cheers
John
John- Sorry for being miss leading you. But thanks for the advice. The Stihl guy would put new points in but he said it could take up to eight weeks to get them in because Stihl doesn't make them any more. The Stihl guy strongly recomends that I go with the newer elec. ignition and thats why I said he doesn't want to mess with it, but he would. I'm going to get a newer saw, but I thought that if I could do a cheap quick fix on the old one I could have it as a back up. So I will check the auto parts stores for the points just for the heck of it. Currently I'm using the old Husky 61 which weighs about as much as two 028's. :-\ -Jason
There are aftermarket electronic ignition modules available for chainsaws like yours and they are not expensive at all. I'm not certain since I've never bought one but I believe they are around $50. I remember that used to be a hot topic on the chainsaw forums about 10 years ago. All my bookmarks on where to buy that kind of stuff also got lost about 2 computers ago. :-\
