what does a jug and piston with ring set go for on this saw. and can you still get them at this time.? thanks
Bailey's (http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=CK+55&catID=1857) has them for $99. They also have the oem for $267. I have been running an aftermarket piston kit from Bailey's in my 394 and it's been running well so far. Click here (http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=CK+55&catID=1857) for a link to the kit. The 55 is a good saw, worth rebuilding.
I'm in the process of rebuilding one right now. One of my landscraper clients burned it up less than 6 months after buying it. He gave it to me for spare parts but I'm putting a new piston and jug on it. The OEM piston and rings would have cost $140 and I would have had a couple hours cleaning up the jug (aluminum galling). The Bailey's aftermarket piston and cylinder kit was $99 so I ordered that, but they are backordered. It was supposed to go out a week ago but got pushed back to May 1.

A much better mechanic than me posted on another forum with details on some specific problem areas on the Bailey's P+C kits for the Stihl 460. Well, I rebuilt a Stihl 460 two months ago and his advice was spot on. When I get this kit I will check for potential fit problems before bolting it up, especially the two spots that needed a little filing on the 460 kit.
I'll be sure to update this thread with pictures and info once I get the parts and put the saw back together.
Rocky, that saw was never used much, well worth the parts.I've used 3 or 4 of those after market kits with good luck can't tell the dif between oem and after. The saw builders don't want you to fix or rebuild just buy a new saw and price the parts to that end.The kits make it practical.Frank C.
55 Rancher was the first saw I bought myself. I'd been given an old Lombard by my stepdad and occasionally when I want to abuse my eardrums I'll use it but the 55 is my baby (and often gets treated like one ::) 8) .

Did you ever get that kit for the Rancher 55? If so, were there any problems with fit?
I have a Rancher 55 that needs a rebuild and am considering the kit from Bailey.
They were backordered for a long time. It finally showed up last weekend and I put the saw together a couple days ago. I didn't encounter any problems. I did take a saw file and went over a few rough edges, but that was for my own amusement. I had about 10 minutes running time getting the carb set and then I handed the saw off to it's new owner. I suspect he will report back on how it runs in the next week or two.
Be aware that the replacement jug comes drilled for a compression release, so you will need to buy one or at least a plug for the hole. I borrowed a compression release off another saw on the shelf for the time being until the new one arrives.
Hi,
How much use did you have on it? We bought my Dad a new 55 Rancher last fall, and love it. We also have an old Pro Mac 610 that needs some TLC. Does Bileys have a web site?
Thanks,
Will
Welcome to the forum William
Bailey's has a website, and if you look on the left column here, you will see their site (Lucas Mill Bailey's), as they are one of several sponsors of the Forum.
Thank you. I love this forum already.
