I am an arborist in CT looking to buy one of your tools.
Cant Hook VS Peavy. Whats the main differences, and what would be better for me?
Durrr...
Just looked at the site, and saw your comparison chart.
Looks like I like the idea the Cant Hook can be used parallel on the log.
Now if I can decide what length... :-\
I have the 60", which I like. We got two 48" LogRite peaveys with the new Wood-Mizer, but they are a little short for me.
I'm thinking the 60" is too big. Most of the work I do the logs aren't coming down in any serious length anyways. Have only done one 40" Maple, and a 42" Box Elder. Both of them the mini skid was there to roll anyways. I'm thinking a 48" would be it.
It's better to have it than to need it an not have it. The 60 inch is the way to go.
i have several logrite tools.
my main stays are a 60" peavey, and a 60" cant hook. I like the peavey when working logs on the ground, on the mill, I like the cant hook. they both have their advantages.
I like that I can stick the peavey in the ground and it will stand up on it's own :D
I usually ask several questions of my customers when trying to determine the right tool for them.
the obvious- What will you be doing with the tool? This might help determine which size hook is best or if maybe an Xtreme tool is neccessary.
2 - Have you ever used a cant or peavey before? I usually suggest they stick with what they know.
If they have never used one I ask one more question before making my suggestion.
3 - what state do they live in? I ask this because we sell more peavey style in New England and more cant hooks down South and in the Northwest. The rest of the country is up for grabs. So chances are that's what they've seen people use and may be familiar with even if they haven't used one.
Hope that helps.
I ended up ordering a 48" Peavy.
Thanks Tammy.
I've got one of each - a 48" and 60" peavy. The 60" hook is a bit big for logs in the 12" - 16" range. Though it does still work. That being said, I use the 60" peavy most of the time. And yes, the sticking straight up in the ground feature is great. :)
yeah, that's the only lazy thing I could figure out in moving logs!
