::)How many credit cards do you have??? I was just going through my safe and I noticed that I have 17 credit cards that I use for business and personal. I have a total of about $20,000 in personal debt and about $400.00 in business.
I know that I'm better at keeping the business debt to a minimum but this personal thing is way out of hand. :o
Is this normal or am I just bad with the money thing. :P ;D
Steve
Let me get this straight...You have $20,000 in personal debt that you actually owe?!!!?
That's a fair chunk of change! If I were you, I'd make every effort to get that total down. You'll be glad you did. (I'm getting off my soapbox now.)
Good luck!
Throw out all them damb cards, they can dig you a whole faster than a brand new backhoe...... The available credit on all those cards will kill you if you apply for a mortgage or a loan for a new truck, tractor, mill etc..... Get a debit card from your bank on you checking or savings w/ a visa or mastercard backing.... and a small credit line.... then you will only spend what you have.
Hi Bizie
2 Sugestions
1: Talk to a good accountant
Interest on money you have borrowed for your business should be tax deductable.. so it makes sense to borrow money against your business rather than your presonal accounts....
2: If you owe that sort of $$ on plastic talk to your bank manager. You may be better consolidating that into a mortage on a property and getting a much better interest rate you can pay off over 3 years? Dunno about your rates... but interest on plastic here is 18%... loan secured on house is 7.2%....
once ya do that cut up the cards ya dont need?
Ian
Bizie,
Those cards are for emergencies and record keeping. While it may seem good to have a bunch of them, each is considered a liability when you go to a bank for a loan.
I keep two only to make sure I have one that will be accepted. It gives me a backup record keeping for business purchases.
Pay the things off every month.
That's important.
The Card companies get paid by the merchants for the transaction, don't feel bad about them not getting your money. If you pay your card off by their schedule and don't ever buy another thing, you may never get it paid off.
See a credit councilor and get some ideas on how to get rid of the debt. They know some tricks that the everyday citizen doesn't.
Do it before you get any older. Do it now.
I was going to stay out of this one but you are getting the kind of advice I would give you. I keep 2 cards, one to save me from having to carry too much cash which I pay off every month, and a second with a low max to use for internet purchases, which I also pay off every month.
One thing I would ask is if you own property and does it have a mortgage? Home loan interest is deductable from income taxes and sometimes is a better place to carry debt, though many purchases are not apprpriate for long term debt.
By all means get a credit counselor to helpyou manage the level of debt you have $20,000 at 18% costs $300 a month in interest and is not deductable unless it is for business purposes.
You have been given good advise, let me give an anecdotal example. A friend here in town has a thriving business, money coming in every day, but, they had financed much of their extravagant life style, and some of the business daily cost, with credit cards. Dozens of credit cards. The business folded, and family collapsed.
$120,000 of credit card debt at 18%.
So 20 grand is alot of money??? Last year at this time I was in cc debt for about 50 grand, over the last year I paid back about 30 grand of that.
When I pay these blood suckers off the cards will be going in the trash except for two of them.
Me thinks I should have them paid off by Nov if everything works out right. 8)
When I went to the bank to consolidate my debts they wanted to lend me more money then I needed. ::) That was the only way that they would lend me money??? Didn't make sense to me. :o
What pisses me off (can I say that???) is that once you get a card and they see that you pay your bills they keep sending you new ones. Like I have cards that I will never use but they send them anyways.
What I would like to do is just say to hell with it and not pay them and see what happens.
Anyways it's nice to hear some opinions, just thought that I was like everyone else but I guess I'm not. ::)
Steve
Bizi,
I got almost as many cards as you. Just counted 15. The differance is we almost NEVER use them. We get a new card when there is a pretty color or design my wife likes. Then when it comes we look at, laugh and throw it in the drawer with all the others. To compare, on all 15 added together we average about $50.00 a month. Will Power Man, Will Power.
$50.00 a month??? That's all you pay??? :o Wish my bills were that low. :D
Just off the top of my head with my cc bills, mill payment, insurance, 3 phone lines, cell bills, accountant, company stuff etc...etc I figure I need 4 grand a month just to keep my doors open. ::)
Last year after the smoke cleared my paycheck was a little over 65 grand. Do ya think I've seen any of that??? Seems that as fast as the loot comes in it goes out just as fast.
I left the house yesterday with a little over six hundred in cash and I think I have about 40 left. Where did it all go??? I've given up on keeping track of money, as long as I keep making it. ;D
Steve
I think we all get lots of cards in the mail and even more offers. When ya get them, take the scissors to em just as fast as you can.
I agree with everyone else. Pay they balance monthly, not just part of it. And do it on time also. I have three just so I don't even get close to the over limit fee. I rotate them in my wallet so I make sure to use them equally.
Get that debt taken care of and start building a nest egg. The years and health go fast some times. In an earlier post you were talkin about shingling Mark's house. Years ago I ran two crews shingling, now, twenty years later, I don't even want to look that high...... ;)
Bizie,
Yea I got plenty of bills to. My point was we don't put things like you said on credit cards. We pay all bills by check when and as they come in. I would rather have my lights turned off than put something like that on a card.
I even had 2 cards canceled this year for non-usage.
I get a bunch of credit card deals in the mail. They say if you transfer the balance to the new one you won't pay any interest for something like 6 months.
Don't know if this is a come on or really works but might be a way to save some money on interest until you get the principal paid off.
Haytrader you bring up a valid point about growing old and that's one of the things that are on my mind that's why I've been thinking about walking from the whole mess. Don't really want to be paying these cards when I could be saving the money instead.
Larry I get those deals all the time and I do transfer the balances, pretty good deal //BUT (wow that's cool) I read the fine print on some of them and they charge me a fee. :(
Steve
We have only two cards and just use one for a number of months and then rotate. This past spring, I got a call in early evening from the credit card company asking if I had OKed a purchase in the last 2minutes for 2500 and 10minute earlier for 3500 in Dallas, Texas which is about 3000miles from home. We had both cards, but someone had gotten the number of the card we were using. It didn't cost me any money, but I had to call police and fill out a bunch of paper work. They have me down for 15k credit line, I had told them that 2k would be enought, but was told that it would be there risk and they would not reduce the amount. It cost them 5.5k to some thief.
I get I must be missing out on something. I've never had a credit card, and hopefully never will. I use cash or check everywhere I go. Around town I have some charge accounts set up at NAPA, feed mill, etc., but those are paid every month. If we need to borrow any money we have a line of credit at a local bank. 2% over prime is alot cheaper than 18%.
The only time I'm inconvenienced by not carrying a credit card is when traveling, which isn't often. I've found that most hotels and car rental places will accept cash if you pay in advance and appear to be a reasonably responsible person.
I've also witnessed folks living above their means on credit cards. It seems they fly high as a kite for a few years, then they get to where they can't cover all the bases and things come crashing down around them. I'd rather just plug along and know that everything I have is mine and not owe my right arm and both legs to some New York banker.
Frickman you is a very smart man. I re-gained my credit a few years back and I wish I never did. Cash and cheques worked great before the cc, wish I never fell for the easy money.
Steve
Burn them cards, and all the paper work that comes with them. Its to easy for someone digging around in the trash, to steal your identity's.
Saw a clip on tv tonight about this.
Ed K
Go back to the bank and get the debt consolidation loan. Accept the extra they want to give you. Use it to make some of the payments early. Keep paying more than the amount they want each month and the principle will be reduced by that amount which can take months off the loan period and hundreds of dollars off the cost. Much better than any on the credit card. Always pay the entire amount on any credit card each month to avoid the high interest they charge. Let somebody else finance the presidents bonus. Use the credit card as a guaranteed payment and not as a loan vehicle.
Okay BizieDizie
You have heard some good advice (similar to the advice you received about the smoking "give-em-up" thing). The ball is in your court. Now what will you do with it? I'm hoping the same thing you did with the smokes (you did give 'em up, didn't you?). Your son will be the better, for your wise decisions now.
Our credit card gets paid off every month, so no interest charge here. Some cards will charge interest beginning the day of purchase. We don't have any of them. Also, some states allow more than the 18% interest charge. Ours isn't one of them, but 18% is really high. What makes it high are those who try to skip out on paying. I think the cc companies have pretty good collection success, though.
My daughter has a thing about credit cards. She doesn't want to see anything but a 'zero' balance when the monthly bill comes. So - she calls the cc company hot line early, finds out what the monthly total will be, and sends them a check before the last posting date. Drives her sister nuts! - as she usually sends her a copy of the 'zero' balance bill.
We're wishing you the best of luck here.
I have one credit card, I use it almost every day to pay for business stuff, at first of the month I go to the web site and transfer my money from checking to make the payment, this gives me a way of tracking my spending.
I have'nt written a check from the account in over a year, seems I had problems writing them all down. ;D
Beenthere,
To tell ya the truth I have noooo idea as to what I'm gonna do. I know that I owe alot but I'm not ready to face the music if ya know what I mean.
If there was a way to walk from it all I would do it in a heartbeat.
If work was consistent year round then I would be ok but this summer has kinda suxed for work and I will be going into winter kinda broke.
We have a building boom here but as I chose to dedicate the last two years to my sons pre-school I kinda got forgotten by the bigger guys.
I was the vp of a hands on parent participation pre-school and it was alot of work and I lost out on some pretty big contracts because I was tied up with meetings and everything else that goes along with a school that depends on donations. I lost my contacts as in this buisness people don't really care about your family life and things like that.
I put my kid's education before money and I really don't see anything wrong with that. As I have said in the past my kid is my world. :)
I am at this very moment doing residential work and the pay suxs. :D
I got way to used to doing commercial where I could make a grand a day doing nothing but giving orders.
I like the advice that I'm getting here and it gives me something to think about. :)
BTW your daughter has the right idea 8) My ex is the same way and she drives a 40,000 car.
Steve
Oh yeah the smokes are down to less then 6 a day. 8) I'm very proud about that. 8)
Congrats on them smokes. What ya save on them should make a BIG dent in them CC's.
Fla_ I'm amazed at how much loot that I don't spend now plus I feel better. 8)
Left the house this morning with two smokes and came home with one. :)
The more I break my ways the more I hate these things. Do we got a smiley that I can put here that pukes. ::)
Steve
Kevin,
I know what ya mean about "forgettin" to write em down.
:D
I don't write any down and it drives my wife crazy. I tell her not to worry. If ya run out, they will send ya a personal letter tellin ya xactly how much ya don't have.
:D :D :D
Haytrader,
Amen to that :D
Using a credit card is like having automatic overdraft protection.
And If you do have to pay a little interest it's a tax deduction to boot. :)
Steve,
I always put the two decades of raising my kids in a special catagory of my life. Two decades really is a wink of an eye when you look back. Develop your kid (and that's what a good parent does, DEVELOP) into the best person possible. And, as I'm sure you know, turnin' that tadpole into a good person is not dependent on money but, at times, you gotta spend money that you don't have. As you mentioned, sometimes money is spent by spending the time with your kid that needs to be spent. It's easy to let the credit card companies get their hooks into you deep when you are trying to provide and spend time. But, kids are an investment more important than cash.
den
PS I really lucked out when I raised a son that became my partner. He now helps me make bucks! big bucks that I couldn't do on my own 8) real cool!
Den :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Steve
I'm with Frickman don't own one don't want one been all over this country and have always used cash. Makes you very aware of how much you spend when your pocket gets this empty feeling. Can't figure out how people can survive spending more than they make and paying those interest rates. Someday it will all crash it happened once before and it can happen again.
Biz,
Call those cc companies and get them to lower your rate. I bought my skid steer, woodmizer and roll back ford truck on cards. I owe 5,000. now and haven't paid one cent in interest. Everytime the free interest period is about up I look for another card company with a 12 month free interest offer and transfer. The transfer fee you mentioned will usually be waved if you call and tell them you'd like to transfer to their card, but don't want to pay that fee. The've waved it for me every time. I called one company to close an account I was going to transfer and was instantly offered to have the interest lowered from 9% to 2.9%. I told them I had a better deal 0%. So I know if you haggle with them they will try and keep your account. I have a AAA VISA card I use for gas purchase that gives me a 5% rebate on fuel purchases thats about 8 cents per gallon right now so that lower it from 1.65 to about 1.58. You don't have to be a AAA member(I'm not) and can apply online for their card. I pay it and any other card off every month. I do like using their money, but only for free. :)
Shopteacher I do the the low interest thing but I have never seen a o interest deal before. I'm gonna pull all the bills out and look them over to see where I'm at. What I'm thinking is to give it to my accountant and have her put them all on one card. I hava alot of small bills and if I put them together then it won't be so bad.
I'm gonna look at a new truck today as it's 1.9% and that's a pretty good deal.
Steve
Biz,
Last month transfered 7500.00 to Chase Manhattan at 0% for 12 months. There address is www.chase.com/cards. They have a phone number for out of the country on the back but I can't make it out due to the embossing of the numbers on the card. Discover card is another one I had used at 0% as well as AT&T universal card. Check them out and see if any can do you any good. Best of Luck.
PS: All that interest would make Devon a great start on a college fund.
Now that's cool. 8) I will check that site out when I get back.
I have one of them goverment deals for a college fund where for every buck I put in they will give me fiffty cents. At the moment it's at around $4500.00. I hope to have about $25000.00 by the time he's ready to get better education but I think that will only put a small dent in what it's really gonna cost.
Steve
K I've been thinking about things. What if I just say to heck with the cards and see what happens??? Been walking around the property and thinking about things and it seems that I have alot of stuff on credit. I look at some of the stuff that I have and I ask myself if I own it or is it on cc??? Not saying that this is a bad thing as being self-employed credit is good at times.
Work has suxed this summer and as I lost most of my commercial work cause I chose to be with my kid things have gotten tight.
Woke up this morning and because of the weather change my knees were killing me so I didn't go to work.
This time of year I have enough saved to make it through the slow times in winter but at this moment I can't see this happening ::)
If I walk from the bills what happens??? Do they take everything??? These are things that I'm thinking about but I don't know if I will do it. At this very moment it's just thoughts going through my mind.
I started this thread saying that I owed about 20 grand and now that I added things up it's alot more then that :o
I have my accountant going over things at the moment and she wants me to save my credit and is going through things to figure out a way. She says that it can be done but I'm thinking of different ways to deal with it ;D
I guess my question is has anyone here lost everything and started over??? What was it like and would you do it again if ya had to ::)
Steve
U R now speakin of bankruptcy there are two kinds both called chapter something. I seem to remember it is hard to keep any capital goods you own under either one. though creative ownership can work. you do need an accountant who is with and for you and knows what you really want to do. GOOD LUCK!
Assuming you have an accountant that you trust, do exactly as she says. Keeping your credit can be useful if, for some reason, you absolutely have to buy on credit. On the other hand, a friend of mine was married for a year or two to a woman that charged him in deep and then took off, leaving him with the bills. He declared bankruptcy and had a couple hard years. He now has more toys and tools than you can shake a stick at and they are paid for. It just takes time. Don't expect any overnight solution like the stupid lottery.
Den what I'm wondering about is the stuff that I bought, like I never used the cc's to go drinking or things like that I used them to buy stuff. Will the cc companies take it all away???
My accountant says that I can make it through this and she has a plan and I do trust her.
I just re-read every post here and it just kinda makes me think that it would be better to start over.
I used the cards to get the company ahead and that was a plus but now I don't need them ;D
In the morning I have a meeting with Trudy and it will be interesting to see what she says :)
Steve
Steve,
I have no idea what the laws are in Canada but, down here, my buddy Mike had to go to court. There had been some haggling between his lawyer and the court. he was told what was going, the big stuff, and what he could keep.
get a good night sleep and then get real honest with Trudy. Then follow her advice. One thing I am sure of, there is a way out of every hole! 8)
Den
do whatever you have to but dont lose your credit. and bankrupcy will be on your credit report for 5 years that you wont be able to get new truck or any kind of credit :'( and even after that its still there in the back ground just waiting to bite you in the a** when you need it most bite the the bullit and pay them of even if you have to sell some of those toys to do it. definitlly aint worth the hassle for whatever its worth. :D good luck whatever you decide. :)
I've an acquaintance (friend?) who has lived on Credit Cards since his retirement from the Army. His indebtedness cost him a job with the Fed. Park Service, It prevented his working with an established company in the field of Surveying, which was his livelihood. He claimed Bankruptcy and the Courts took everything he (didn't) own and everything he did own to pay off the indebtedness. He never owned a house but lived in a 5th wheel camper.
If it hadn't been for his wife's sister and her husband, he and his wife would have been on the street. They moved the couple into a back bedroom. It has been 7 or 8 years and he has just bought his first car on credit since the Bankruptcy. He was living on pure cash before. There is a possibility that they may come out of it with reputations intact but it sure doesn't look like it. They are both 65+ now and the only thing they have going for them is his Army retirement which allows on-base shopping and some medical attention. His wife is a Cancer survivor with a colostomy and that gets expensive. He is a beer drinker and most of their disposable income goes toward alcohol.
I would say that Bankruptcy is the very last thing a young fellow should do. Not that it may not be in the cards but your reputation as well as your self-esteem will depend on how you handle this and how you come out of it.
If you feel that you are in over your head then make every effort to right things with your creditors before you leave them holding the bag. :)
well said tom 8)
I think back to when Tammy and I first got Married. I made 3.25 an hour and she did not work. Our grocery buget was 20 a week. Our rent was 100 and our car payment 115, and car insurance was 400 every 6 months. Our electric bill ran around 20 and the phone about the same. In the winter we heated one room with blankets hung up in the doorways to keep that one room warm.
We lived lean. We were both 18 and on our own. We were as happy then as we are now. We may have to live lean again some day. Who knows. Living lean does not mean living without. Most meaningful things are free. Tammy and I have been together since we were 16. We have been down the credit card path in our history and climbed out. How? By looking back at how we started.
Good point Jeff. I guess that's what I don't want to do, live lean. Kinda used to spending money like it grows on trees and I know that if I stop living like this that I will be fine.
13 years ago I would count change when I went on my own and it was hard and it looks like I gotta do that again for awhile. I have way more stuff now and things will work out as they always do.
Tom thanks for the post, you just told me the same thing that my dad just told me :) I didn't want to call him but I did and he told me about what he's been through and my stuff seems so small in comparision.
Steve
Cut up dem cards! They'll eat you alive. If at all possible get a small business loan with lower intrest and pay off the high intrest stuff. Use all your stuff as collateral except your house or land in case the 6!@#%^&* hits the fan you still got a pot to pee in and a window to throw it out of. ;D
You should be incorporated or LLC to seperate buisness from personal stuff, don't know if that applies in canada though.....
You may have to eat ramen noodles for a while but it will be worth it. 8)
Jason
Been looking at my banking options and it looks like I can get a company loan with a 2% interest rate and the payments will be low and spread out over five years. I could take all my cc and cut them up and just keep two and things would be fine from what I see 8)
You know them checks that the cc companies send ya, well I just had a little fire with them all 8)
From the way I figure things I just gotta stop spending money that I don't have :D
I bought this for 5 grand and I've only used it a few times.
Did I need to buy a new trailer??? NOPE :D We have another one here but it's not as nice but it will do the job so this one will be up forsale soon.
My van will be in the papers in the morning as I can't drive two vehicles at once ;D
I let things slide and it's my fault and it's up to me to pick up the slack. I'm gonna pay these bas#$@! off if it's the last thing that I ever do 8) :D
Does anyone know how to make kraft dinner??? :D
Steve
Sometimes the Mac 'n Cheese comes in five packs and is much cheaper than individual boxes. On the good weeks there's a bag of tuna wih them. You don't need hamburger to make Hamburger Helper. There's usually bread at 2 fer 1. And sometimes dinner is just outside running around the yard. CB caps don't make enough noise to bother the neighbors if you live in town.
C
Seed doesn't cost much, You can buy a pack of dry beans at the grocery store and plant what you don't eat. :D
You've about run out of growing season up there though, haven't you? :) Snow Peas!! :D :D
Check out www.daveramsey.com lots of info on this subject and also has a syndicated radio show.
C_Miller Mac + cheese kinds makes me sick but I do eat it I have to ;D Found out today that if I come home for lunch I save a few bucks plus I don't have to listen to the guys and the b.s that they talk about ;D
Tom it's a bit late to plant anything but I know lots of people that did plant this year.....gotta go make a few fone calls ;D
kentuckyboy I'm really bad at searching web pages but if you can point me to the topic that would be cool :)
Steve
Steve,
There's a book I read just in case I needed to called "The Millionaire Next Door" by Thom Stanleyand William Danko.
They did research on how most millionares maintain their lifestyle. most don't live lavishly but try to accrue wealth by living on less than what they earn.
also if you cut up hotdogs and throw them in the mac and cheese it's not to bad. Ham is good too, or is that canadian bacon?I am pretty sure I was in that movie. The last scene showing the American side of the river. man i need some sleep.

C
I was grabbing a lunch from the Deli in the mornings, several years ago.Two pints Choc milk, two sandwiches, cookies and a big chunk of carrot cake, plus a coffee.
It was just over $13.00 cdn a day.I didn't give it much thought for awhile, then realized that if you multiply that by at least 20 workdays a month,I was blowing $260 a month. My lunches are made at home now for a small fraction of that.(milk included)
If you like to read books, get a library card, they are about $2.00 a year and if they don't have what you're looking for, they will have it for you in a week or so.
Have you ever read "The Wealthy Barber" ? That book is chocked full of good common sense tips, and it is fun reading.
It's at your local library :)
Update 8)
It's 1:30am and I'm up, had to get up a litlle bit earlier today and gather up my cc.
My accountant is going to take me by the hand and drag me down to the bank at 6pm today and get things sorted out ::) :D 8)
I asked her what her bill would be and she just laffed and said that seeing me cut up the cc would be payment enough :D :D
I switched from my old accountant to my new one just a few months ago and Trudy is like a best friend, she really cares and when we talk we go from the business end of things to real life stuff and we just yak forever :D I really like her and it's cool how she explains to me that I'm not the only one that's been down this road :)
This will be real interesting when I find that if I don't have it in my pocket I can't spend it 8)
Steve
K zzzzz bank called today and said they will lend me 10 grand to pay off the high interest cards 8) This is what I was hoping for as the original figure of 20 grand was just to see if they would pay all the cards off :D :D
So they say come on down sign the papers and the dough will be in your account. Well I get there and I'm looking at the interest rate and my eyes ain't working to great today but I see that it says 35%??? So I says hey does that say 35% or does it say3.5%??? Well it turns out that they want 35% for 36 months on 10 grand :D Ya right lady do I look stupid or something ::) :D
So I walked out of there and applied online to 6 other banks to see what they say.
Does this 35% thingy sound right??? Is this what banks do on a daily basis to people ::)
Steve
35%%%% :o :o :o :o
Holy smokes!!!!!
Did you ask if Vasilene was included to ease the pain!!!! ;D ;D
Definately shop around.
I assume this in an unsecured loan???
Even then I would say 10% would be high for an unsecured signature loan.
Jason
Jason here's the part that I don't understand, they will lend my company money for a cheap% BUT I have to take out another 5 grand on top of the cash for these stupid rrrsps that they want me to have ::)
But if it's a personal loan that has to do with paying of cc debt then it's 35%. If I ask for a loan to let's say go on vaction they will lend it to me for cheap aswell ::)
I've been trying to avoid dealing with any banks but NOW that I see what these blood suckers are doing my eyes are wide open and I'm finding this to be fun.
I'm amazed at how many banks I can get loans from online, like today I filled one in and before I could fill out another one I got a call saying that the money was there if I needed it.
Hmmm now if I got 10 loans a 10 grand each that would be 100 grand :P ::) There'sa really nice sailboat in the paper... ;D
Steve
Steve, if'n ya did that you would need the sailboat. ;)
C
You are smart to not jump on a signature loan, especially with interest like that. What happened to the trip to the bank with your accountant? And, have you had any luck talklng to a credit consultant?
Don't look for easy quick-fixes. Set a goal and work towards it.
Tom you're right about setting a goal and that's what I'm working on. I was thinking about this lastnight and it's my credit that's on the line so I should take control of things.
Thr trip to the bank with Trudy was good and we still haven't heard back from them. Her plan was a much larger plan that involved alot more money over a longer period of time, kinda like a car loan but there's money for me if needed.
I talked to a credit consultant yesterday and they were talking about starting over which in my mind isn't an option cause it isn't like I can't pay my bills it's just that I have too many.
If I was to go bankrupt it would cost me 8 grand to do that and that doesn't make sense.
Now this might sound crazy but if I put all my dedt on 1 cc and take out 2 grand on another cc to keep things afloat till after x-mas my payments will be low and it would work with me. This is just a thought at the moment and I doubt that it will happen as so many banks are calling to give me money.
See the biggest problem is that work was slow in the summer and I've never gone into winter like this. Talked to a few contractors yesterday and there's some decent sub jobs out there so if I gotta be a trade for a few months then so be it. Hey I might even enjoy it!
Atleast I'm thinking!

That last part makes about as much sense as anything you have come up with, so far. Your son might not see you as much, but, later on, you can enjoy him much more, without the debt. 8) 8)
Steve,
sometimes on these credit cards they will negotiate a lower payoff. say you owe 2k on a card they might take 1500 to close out the account immediately. since you are looking to reduce debt that may help.

Fla what last part were you referring to???
C_Miller that would be a good thing if it doesn't affect my C/R.
Steve
Doublecheck but I've had friends and relatives negotiate and it didn't bother their credit rating. it just shows up as a closed account. which would be good I imagine.

Janel the divorce thing can really suck the money up :-[ I saw a buddy drained of everything and the lawyers were the ones to get everything in the end. :-/
I was smart I just walked in and told the judge that she could have everything but my tools and that's how it went :D
She wanted a fight but I didn't and what's money anyways???
