What is the difference between a a 026 (older model) and 260 (newer model)?

Pretty much just the name, along with some minor year-to-year updates such as the crappy new gas and oil caps. Stihl also tends to change things like carbs or gas tank vents every few years.

On the 026/ 260 series, the 'pro' version has an adjustable oiler and the other one is fixed.

The "PRO" versions also have a decompression valve, which is a nice feature but sort of unnecessary on a 50cc saw.  Nonetheless, I think the 026/260 family are excellent machines, regardless of age or extras.

Not all Pro versions have the decompressor  valve ;)

Didn't they go from 44mm bore to a 44.7mm bore too.

That was later in the 260 history, and in the US the larger bore comes with a more restrictive muffler and a .2kW lower power rating (not so in the rest of the world).  ;)
