I thought I cut a beechnut. The wood is yellow with flec's or rays like redoak. I thought beech was a plain looking wood ? Any idears.

Beech has some striking figures on the sawn surface and rays are much thicker on the end grain. Earywood is more distinct too on the end grain not as diffuse as sugar maple. I think it looks nicer than sugar maple in furniture.
