Title: error 797 PCI simple command controller
Post by: Tom on September 14, 2009, 08:49:17 AM
DanG has a problem.

He was creating a post for the forum and a message came up that said "Found new Hardware".

Then his computer hung up.  Nothing worked.  He couldn't get the task manager, do a alt/cntl delet or anything.

He unplugged his computer.

when he turned it back on, he got this error message and can no longer make an internet connection. (he is dial-up)  Error 797   PCI simple command controller
It seems to be telling him that it can't find his modem.

Anybody have any ideas?

Modem problems. See if he has a disk to reinstall his modem incase ita a driver problem. It could be the modem went to hell too.

Agree with Jeff, probably the modem. It may be a plug in card, just yank it out and plug in another one. One of the most common failures is lightening coming in on the phone line and taking out the modem. Don't have to be a direct hit, a near miss 5 miles down the line will usually take out the modem..This is assuming DanG has a desktop, if it's a laptop, all bets are off.
