A lady at another forum posted these pics of a moth she found on the side of her house. It's about 3" long, and she'd in Texas.
I know it's not a plant or a tree.... but it does appear to have a lovely woodgrain pattern, so that's something, right? ;)
Anyone know what it is/might be?

It seems to be a mutated Sphinx moth. I don't see a hind wing. Some species resemble hummingbirds with rapid wing beats.

I posted your reply and she said she thinks the hind wing is hidden underneath the forewings. She googled to see more pics and says that's exactly what it is.
